This thread may also apply to the 630m.
I recently purchased an m140 and was lucky enough to recieve one with a Truelife Quanta screen. However, the right speaker did not work so I had them send me a replacement instead of getting it repaired (at that time, I did not know about the problem with the Samsung screen)
The replacement came, and sure enough it had the dreaded Samsung screen. Also, both speakers on this new replacement unit were blown. Sound was raspy and distorted.
I decided to cut my losses and asked Dell to take back the replacement and let me keep the original. I was a little suspicious of how easily they obliged and allowed me to return the replacement.
Anyway, I had a chance to take a few photos of them side by side. Exposure and white balance were kept the same between shots.
I did notice that some people called the graininess a "sparkle" effect. This, to me, implies "SSE" (Silk Screen Effect), which it was NOT. It was definitely GRAINY. Also, out-of-the-box white balance on the Samsung screen was definitely way off (An overall green cast) compared to the Quanta display (which was only slightly warm).
Light leakage on the Samsung was also excessive.
I would like to note that I was not aware that this laptop was shipping with two different types of screens, so I did not have any preconceptions about either the Samsung or Quanta. In fact, I had a terrible experience with Quanta screens on a couple of Toshiba laptops I purchased earlier this year. Only after firing up the replacement unit with the Samsung did I notice that something was way off compared to the original unit I received (which was when I researched the issue online and found the discussions in these forums).

well while you can see a difference in the light leakage im not sure if i really see a differance in the sparkle affect. i have a m140 and i guess im one for the lucky ones that has a good samsung screen. my light leakage seems to be about what the quanta is. i am happy with the screen that came on mine, plus to me these are only xga screens to the pixel count is lower which means they will have bigger pixels.
good comparison though -
so u prefered the Quanta Truelife in this case?

most people will prefer a quanta truelife screen over a samsung screem but that is not to say that there arent any good samsung screens. you just have a higher probability of getting a good screen when you get a quanta screen.

I can see the difference between the 2 in those pics, the pics of the Quanta screen are easier on the eyes compared to the erratic looking pattern on the Samsung. I hope the E1405 that is coming to me tomorrow uses a screen that is not like the Samsung on the 630m that is about to be eBay'ed LOL.
