I have a 1500 with the Sigmatel HD Drivers. I downloaded the driver update from dell, but when it ran, it said it was the wrong driver for my system. I then used the windows driver utility to point to the extracted folder and installed the drivers that way. Well, now the device won't work unless I roll back to the old drivers...
    Any ideas on this? Thanks.

Glad you fixed it, but the general idea here is that if you are able to fix your problem, usually you drop in a word to say how you managed to fix it and what was wrong initially - so that others with similar issues may benefit :)

thanks a lot for your understanding.

Oops, sorry. Well, here's the entire story, with a little bit of stupidity on my part but a little weird computer behavior too:
    I have xp home.
I downloaded the xp drivers, tried to install using the exe, and encountered the error. Then, I went to device manager and updated the drivers by pointing them to a folder. Well, I accidentally pointed windows to some Sigmatel Vista drivers I accidentally downloaded instead of the xp drivers.
I restarted, and the sound didn't work (yellow exclamation point by the Sigmatel Device). I then tried to change the driver via windows and point it to the xp driver folder this time - no luck. It said it already had the best driver installed.
I then 'rolled back' the drivers. I was back to step 1, but at least the sound worked. For the heck of it, I tried to install the xp drivers again, this time using the exe file again. This time, no message! It worked.
Sorry if that was hard to follow. Thanks.
