    Hello there,

I have managed to install win 7 x64 on Inspiron 1420. The only problem so far are the audio drivers. My audio card is Sigmatel HD. I tried to install a version from vista x64 but I have some noise problems in Skype.

What kind of drivers are you using in x64 Win 7 for your inspiron 1420? Helped needed.

    Thank you

since I didn't get an answer, probably no one is in my situation.

Can someone help me by telling me some Dell laptop models that "share" the same hardware as Inspiron 1420?

    thanks in advance

I'm in the same situation, I have the 1420 that I just put 7 home premium 64 bit on, everything is good except audio. I'll keep an eye on this post for sure and will post if I find a fix

I tried the x64 Beta on my 1520, and the audio drivers were the biggest driver problem I encountered. The Vista ones caused massively increased boottime, and the generic drivers that Windows auto-installed seemed to be of poor quality coupled with the 1520's sound system. In the end I left it with the generic drivers.

Other than the 1520 and 1720 (and AMD equivalents 1521, 1721, 1421), I don't know which other models would be compatible with the audio in the 1420. I've since reverted back to XP exclusively, so I haven't looked into the situation recently, either (nor do I plan to deploy Windows 7).
