I've got a 6000 on it's way via UPS. Scheduled to be delivered on 12/16. Does someone need to be around to sign for delivery? If so, can I leave a note asking UPS to just leave at the door? Or is there someway I can get a narrower timeframe on delivery so I can arrange to be home?

    Thanks.

I don't think they require a signature. I just bought an XPS for my father-in-law and they left it at the front door. The only exception might be if you did overnight delivery.

My 6000 is on the way and that is my concern that they leave it on the door step with the box marked Dell. Why not put a sign up saying what it is.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks

This is what you can do, call UPS and ask when it is supposed to be delivered and then you can request a timeframe, that way you can get the last one first one, whatever you want. It is alot easier that way they trying to get it left on the porch. The are good with working with you.

Last I heard, you had to have a signature. I've ordered a ton of stuff from dell, and they've refused to leave it eventhough I live out in the middle of the sticks. I think Dell has a contract with UPS stating that it must have a signature for security reasons.

Another option is to call UPS and ask them to hold it at the warehouse for you. After work/school, you can swing buy and pickup your dell.

Personally I wouldn't leave it on porch. Reason is that these boxes are huge and do have dell stickers on them as well as dell tape. So for security purposes, it might not be the best idea.

Does anyone know what it means when UPS has

    " In Transit -
    Re-
    Scheduled"

    on my dell laptop means?

All I have seen is that it was in origin scan in Nashville, it's supposely to be here tomorrow according to UPS, however it hasn't even left nashville according to UPS, I hope this is just another case of UPS being slow or whatever.

Than according to dell it says 19-21 it should be delivered.

I hate to suggest this, but maybe the same thing that happened with USAF is happening with you.... dell might have a hold on it to be delivered on a certain date.

Have you tried calling UPS and see what they say? When I called about mine, they were very aware of Dell's policies on shipping and didn't b.s. around.

    xbandaidx,

I had an issue like this with Fedex. What type of shipping did you get?

Sometimes Dell puts a "do not deliver before" date on the shipments, which means it could be shipped up to your city, but they will not deliver until that date. I would suggest you call UPS and see if that is the case, if so you will have to call Dell and tell them they need to take that request off of the order. It is a hassle I had to call 3 times before someone actually did it, they will put it in on the computer, but I don't know how fast that is. Hope this will help you out.

I fail to see the whole point of doing something like that, just continue shipping it with the option I choosed. I personally think it'd make Dell look better if something came before it was suppose to be here.

I totally agree, that is why I asked Dell why that date was on there. The said they did not know why it was on the order. Did you call UPS?

Nah, I didnt bother calling them.

SG said they don't BS around with Dell's policy, so it seems like it would be a waste of time.

Alot of things could have caused that reschedule...they could have forgot a pallet or something. My friend works for UPS, happens alot.

I meant that they know Dell's policy and that unlike dell which will b.s. you around sometimes and pass you to person to person, UPS won't. They are very faimilar with what Dell is doing...sorry for the confusion

Ok, UPS really needs a better tracking system. Unlike Fedexs great system their's doesnt even report somethings, like somehow magically it origin scaned in nashville and departed from chicago. WOW.

I have used UPS before and that is the last stop before it gets here, so i should be getting it tomorrow.

Yep, UPS told me that they require signatures for Dell stuff because of their contract. I was told that they can't even leave it with a neighbor. Call UPS, but don't hold your breath on when they'll get your package to another drop-off/pick-up point. Another lady and I were told that our Dell packages would be available at the shipping facility on a Friday, but they didn't drop them off until Monday night. They were still on the truck(s).

If you do reschedule or change the destination, you must call UPS before 7 pm to either pick up at the warehouse that night or the next day ( if the driver actually leaves it), or to have them deliver it to your work or such the day after next.

It was a fiasco for me to get my laptop from UPS, and I'd recommend Dell purchases to only be delivered to where you know you (or your spouse) will be. I was waiting around at 10 pm that night to pick up my package at the UPS center, and there were tons of Dell boxes coming in for pick-up/holds. Good luck!
