Greetings, I have what probably is a silly question about the Dell Touchpads. In the mouse properties theres an option to turn on using the back and forward functions of your browser by tapping the top-middle/left/right portion of the touchpad. I cannot for the life of me get this to work. My notebook is a brand new Inspiron 6000 that works perfectly, so it must be me, but does anyone have some sort of trick to get this to work? Thank you.

OK I found a web site
    http://www.cirque.com/documents/cat_manual.pdf

which talks about our pad. To browse back and forward place your finger on the pad all the way at the top move to the left about 1/8" to go back right for forward. The browse seems to happen when you lift your finger.

Check the manual it describes our pad more or less. The control panel suff might be somewhat different.

I don't suppose you ever figured this out. I am attempting the same thing on my 9300. The oter post was refering to the Synaptics pads. The 9300 at least does not have a synaptics pad but an alps pad instead.

I have managed to do back fooling around but I can't figure out how I did it and can't reproduce the result. looping around near the top of the pad seems to do this but I can't figure out how to do it repeatedly and there doesn't seem to be any documentation on it either.

In the control panel make sure that all of the stuff is enabled. On the gestures page it talks about back forward etc.

then press your finger at the very top of the pad hold it down slide to the left and let it up. it does a "Back" in the explorer. to the right does a forward.

I have the latest driver installed and this does in fact work. Seems undocumented anyplace in the Dell documentation.

Does the Dell Inspiron 700m (which I believe is equipped with a Synaptics) trackpad support scrolling?

all synaptics pads do this and more if he driver is installed and configured. You can get the latest from (i believe) synaptics.com. It scrolls and other things you can configure. I had one of them in my compaq presario it was the only thing there that did work!

Thanks Dude, for the response. [ :)]

I've downloaded the latest driver and will try to load it to a showroom machine in my area soon. The showroom Dell's around here are very badly configured as most purchasers here are not terribly sophisticated. They buy on looks of the machine more than its capabilities. The demo 700m-n are running at an awful 1024x768, for example, because the salespeople are too lazy or dumb to install the correct VGA drivers. [)]
