so many polls -_- but i dont think i really care but it might be beneficial for number crunching people.
-
Well a numberpad is not a bad thing which in my opinion makes it a good thing...
-
better than wasted space i always say
-

I lke it since I use it for work and deal with # all day long -
The numberpad is the point of having a 17" in the first place. "Desktop Replacement"..not many people get a 17" hogger like I'am if they want to lug it around school or anything.
Laptop keyboards have a weird feel to them and the keys are smaller than a regular keyboard. Either way, the numberpad is 1 of the reasons I got a 17". -
17”notebooks have enough space for a full size keyboard + more. So why not use that space for something useful ? (Therefore I’d say yes. But personally I don’t care since I don't think I'll ever buy a 17”
-
True. My friend just got a 17" HP laptop for this SOLE REASON. -
Is there any cons of adding the numberpad?
-
Frankly, the MAIN REASON I'm looking at a 17" laptop IS the addition of a numeric keypad. I'd REALLY like a full-sized keyboard, but I know that's not an option... At least having the numeric keypad gives me ONE THING I'm used to on my standard desktop computer.
When I see a 17" laptop for sale WITHOUT a numeric keypad I think the manufacturers are IDIOTS and look elsewhere, lol. Of course, being a "touch typist," I may use a cordless keyboard and mouse with whatever laptop I get whenever I'm going to do any SERIOUS typing, so I don't end up "retraining" my fingers to the wrong sized keyboard layout.

what kind of moron doesnt want a numpad, they are gods gift to notebooks, I mean, who doesnt love numpads more than those stupid numbers above the letters I'm typing with
-
wont the pad throw off the track pad to the left? Thats the only reason im scared to get the 1720 over the 1520. Seems like it would feel of center.
That and i cant of a 7200rpm -

Well, so far ONE person has made a case for unused space over a number pad. Positioning of touchpad relative to keyboard makes sense. I'm just glad to see one person with some thought behind it anyways. Not judging, just want more "why" from the antis. Because when I saw this topic, I wondered why it was even a question. I mean, I wouldn't even consider a 17" that wasted that much space without a numpad. Then after seeing the poll results, I couldn't wait to find out what anyone would have against a number pad...
after a few minutes of brainstorming:
-more holes for potential dust/liquid infiltration.
-it's a couple of ounces heavier than flat casing.
-accidentally touching generates interfering input
-paying for it whether i want it or not, but as an option i could skip it and save a few dollars.
-find it ugly
-hate redundancy, and those numbers are already in the keyboard already.
-makes the keyboard too big. get lost hunting and pecking.
-could have put a giant scroll pad over there, or bigger speakers.
Though IMO the poll results reflect an underlying variable- I'd guess that about 60% of us CAN ten key by touch! -
i want the 17" i just hope i can get used to the off center thing. or i hope it wont bother me at all. I have not had the chance to actually sit down with a 17" in my lap before, just seen them at the stores. i wonder if its overkill!

It's one of the reasons i bought the 1720...
