I've been using I8kfangui for a long while now and in the begging everyone was telling me to put a plus or minus 8 degree C offset on, so I did. I'm just starting to wonder now, why? Is it like a fail safe or something to help protect my graphics card (in case it DOES get too hot then I still have some headroom and my laptop doesn't burst into flames)? So whats the deal? I've been wondering about this.
Note: I posted this in the software section but no one would respond, I figure I'll get a better turnout in here...

I'm pretty sure someone tested the actual sensors and saw that they report that much of an offset from the actual temps.
I have heard the same thing. -
I was wondering the samething, but just as you figured it was a fail safe also.

I don't know...the only reason I was asking is because all of a sudden my temps are pretty high (im getting like 65 C just browsing the internet and listening to music), and it can get up to 80 while gaming. I did OC it a little but that was months ago and when I originally did my temps didnt change more than a degree or two (it was a very minor OC). I cracked open my case to check if there was dust buildup but there isn't, I'm sort of puzzled. I even have it raised off the desk about 2 or 3 inches to allow for more air flow, its strange. I checked for malware too, and it seems clean. I was just wondering if the 8 degree offset was actually nothing and my temps were not ACTUALLY that high. I haven't experienced any instability at all but it has felt a tad warm on the bottom (not too bad though).
Simple question for anyone using I8kfangui...
