Does the dell inspiron 1720 have a built-in microphone??

If not, can any one recommend an alternative?

If I'm not mistaken, you would have a built-in microphone if you have the integrated webcam put into your system. I have the webcam and the microphone are two holes to the left of the webcam.

    Do you have the 1720?

I've just tried sound recorder on my friend's Inspiron 1720, and the laptop is not picking up any sound.

Vista hasn't be touched since he got the laptop from dell.

Could it be a driver issue?

I have a 1720, there are two holes, one on either side of the webcam and the manual labels them "digital array microphones".
