I leave my notebook on for long periods of time, sometimes overnight. But, it is always plugged in. I haven't really change the default power settings. But, when I start to use the nb the next day or later in the day, I can't get it to visually respond? I usually end up cold booting.
Anyone else having this problem, or have any suggestions? Thanks.

Maybe it's on Hibernate?

I'm actually having this problem, too, with an older Dell Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP Professional. When I attempt to take the system out of stand-by mode, the fan starts up, but the screen stays dark, and the disk light indicates no disk activity. This doesn't happen every time, but I'd estimate that it happens two or three out of every ten attempts. I'd love to know how to resolve this problem.

I have an inspiron 9300 and as well have it on stand-by mode. In fact, just this morning, I had to "Hard reboot" it because my screen would not turn on.

Try pressing Fn + CRT/LCD (F8). It does this to me also, but after experimenting with it, it finally woke up.

I have had this same problem! I thought it was user error. But I also have multiple problems with my system...

Ive had the same problem with Vista. I know have XP and use the Dell graphics drivers and run quickset. No more issues. I couldnt get sleep mode to work with Vista with any graphics drivers.

I'm taking this issue to Dell. I'll let you know my results. Opps, there it goes again. It must be with MJ in "never_never land".

Nevertheless, don't let them take you around the barn with this "known" issue. After some fussing and shouting, I finally got this web site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928135. No gurarentees, but try it if you are having the problems detailed in the kb. Good luck!
Sleep mode: It won't wake up!
