Hello guys. I'm using a Studio 1535 here and I have a 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager GT USB thumbdrive. I noticed that the write speed of my thumbdrive is slow when I copy files from my laptop to the thumbdrive. However, the write speed of my desktop is very fast. The average write speed for my desktop is about 17MB/s while my laptop only manages 7-8MB/s. Is there any specific reason for this? What should I do to improve the write speed of my thumbdrive for my laptop?

It is most likely due to a difference in the physical drives, if all updates are current. A desktop drive will still be significantly faster than laptop drives due to density, r/w speed, etc. It may also be an issue of file size. Small files may transfer slowly or vice versa depending on the fragmentation and flash memory on the usb device.

Unless that is the speed of transferring the exact same files from both your desktop and laptop, we can't really say anything before. Like gengerald said, groups of small files will transfer much slower than groups of larger files totalling the same size.

Thanks for the replies. I usually transfer video files to my thumbdrive. I tried transferring the same video file and the desktop's write speed is higher. Should I enable write-caching in my laptop?
