I currently deciding to get the Vostro 1500 because of its enormously bargain price compared to anyother laptops here in the UK.

I was thinking, is it better to get a t7500 over a t7300 or a 7200RPM hard disk over a 5400RPM hard disk?

    Thanks, jam.

A T7500 is faster then a T7300, a 7.200 rpm hdd is faster then a 5.400rpm drive. But i assume you knew that already. Witch one is better for your needs i don't know because i don't know your needs. if you don't need speed it's a waste of money.

There you go, a stupid answer to a stupid question :p

You'll probably "feel" an upgrade to a 7200RPM harddrive more than upping to the 7500. Are they offering 7200RPM as an option now in the UK on the Vostro? Wasn't an option when I ordered.

^^ its always been an option if you ring them up. I personally dont seem much point in a fast HDD after all i can wait an extra second for my music file to load. The CPU isnt upgradable so i think thats better to upgrade.

What I meant was, which one of the two would give me better performance? (faster)

Btw, toxicmuppet, is you're screen grainy at all? I was gonna go with WXGA as I felt there is more of a chance there be no grainyness. On the point actually, I still undecided about which resolution to pick, WXGA or WXGA+. Is there any pics which compare these?

Finally, is it better to order online or via phone. I feel that via phone I might get wrong spec however I want Vista Premium and that isn't an option on the website.

I think its £70 for 7200RPM over 5400 at the same capacity. Its a rip-off for something that will use a bit more battery, apparently be noisier, and will run hotter for a bit of a performance increase. It will quicken load times a bit or make large files open faster, not worth £70 imo. Same with the processor, T7300 is the same as the T7500, only difference is 200mhz, same bus, same cache, same core etc, not worth the extra £££ either.

Also ordering on the phone can apparently get you some good deals, i managed it once, but then when i cancelled and tried to re-order i didnt trust the guy i had on the phone to get it right, he kept coming up with a pricer higher than i had online, then finally £7 than what i had online, he had missed something somewhere but i wasent gonna chat for ages trying to figure out what, he was hard enough to understand as it is so i just went and ordered online again.
