    Hi,

Currently i am installing drivers for Vista Business x64 for Vostro 1200.

When i went to Control Panel -> Problem Reports and Solutions, i see the problem regarding "Smart Battery"

It said that the problem is caused by Smart Battery and Smart Battery was created by Compal Electronics.

Anyone experienced the same problem ?

    Regards,

    Hadi

    Hi Scythie,

Thanks for your reply. Actually i stay at Singapore.

The Vostro 1200 is equipped with 4 GB DDR2 Memory, that is why i would like to install x64 version of Vista

Really headache with this notebook. I have managed to install Vista Business x64 and find the correct drivers (i think :) ) Because i went to Device Manager and all drivers are loaded properly (no yellow exclamation mark)

But the issue here, i have experienced a computer restart about 5-6 minutes :-( makes me terrible headache.

Officially there is no driver listed for Dell Vostro 1200 yet. All the drivers are stored in the CD.

    Regards,

    Hadi

This problem goes far beyond just the smart battery issue. The 64 bit driver issue from dell is just shockingly bad. I've had my 1200 since Feb and have been updating drivers just about twice a week and I've not had any improvement. My laptop with x64 windows will restart at least 5 times a day and often up to every 10 minutes.

My problem is two-fold in that whenever I burn a linux install disk, the vostro won't boot it. I've got all my desktops able to boot from them, but I can't with my vostro. I've tried ubuntu, pclinuxOS, sabayon, debian... I've heard suse works, but I'm not a fan.
