    Hi,

due to repeated overheating of my CPU, I just opened up my Dell SmartStep 250 and removed lots of dust from the cooling fan. I took care not to bend any pins of the microprocessor, but after reassembling everything, the notebook just won't start again. The colling fan does work though, and I can open the dvd drive, but no booting occurs. I have removed and reconnected the memory modules one by one, but that didn't solve the problem. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Are you saying you removed the processor or something?

Why did you have to remove the processor to clean the heatsink ?

Anyways, are there any beeps ? Maybe you didn’t put back the CPU properly. Or something else got loose in the process. Open t it up again and check everything. In the worst case, something may have gotten damaged.

Yeah, sounds like the reinstallation caused the problems.

Do you see the splash screen for either the bios (the dell screen) or for windows? Do you get any error messages?

I had to remove the processor because it is attached to the lower side of the cooling unit. In other words, by lifting up the cooling unit, the processor was lifted up as well.
Anyway, I don't get any beeping sounds or error messages, and the screen remains completely black.

    Thanks for your help!
