I only use laptops for some wifi, docs and music but I thought it was time for a slight upgrade so I found a deal on a Studio 15 and bought it.

I would like to start playing some games, not serious, but just some fun games to pass the time.

Below is my config, I am not sure what kind of games it can handle.

The system ended up costing me $735 brand new at Dell with my discounts.

Take a look and let me know what I can play (games) on it.

    Studio 15 notebook
Windows Vista SP1 64 bit (Windows 7 for free on the way)
    Intel Core Duo T6600 (2.2 Ghz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cashe)
4 GB shared Dual Channel DDR2 Ram 800Mhz
    Back Lit keyboard
    15.6" 720P screen
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
500 GB SATA 7200 RPM HD w/ Freefall sensor
    8X Dl DVD +/- R Drive
    HI Def audio 2.0

it is not a gaming machine by no means but I thoght some of the upgrades made it well worth the price.

Hey, I have pretty much the same machine, except for a slower Hard drive.

It is quite the capable laptop, it can play all source engine games such as Half Life 2, Counter Strike Source, Team Fortress 2, also Grand Theft Auto 4, Left 4 Dead, etc. That's all I've tested so far & they all ran great!

    Thanks for the info.

Are there any cheap, but good strategy games out there. I use my Xbox for most of the mainstream games.

I saw that new Empire, looks awesome!

Well if you want cheap, D2D has some strategy games on right now for $5. Supreme Commander, Civ 4 and more.

ETW is a huge game. I managed to get it for $25 on a Steam sale. Usually it's around $50+ retail.

    Other stuff that's good.

    WiC
    CoH
    RA3
--> DoW 1 and all it's expansions <-- (probably $5-$10 for Gold or Platinum editions)
    MTW2
    RTW
Stronghold Crusader (pretty old but good)
    Sins of a Solar Empire

take a look at www.direct2drive.com Can find some really fun games there, not all of them are inexpensive but some are. Plus you just have to download and play!

I buy everything from steam nowadays, I had an account I forgot about and when re-signing up it saved my games from like 4 years ago?! It was like I had found a stash of my old game CD's except they weren't all scratched to hell and chewed up with a missing retail key...

When I get my new 1557 (Est. 10-21) I'm picking up the Rockstar collection pack on steam, Every single GTA game 1-4, SA, VC... plus burnout 1 and 2 for $100

The 1555 is a pretty solid gaming machine. I play Team Fortress 2 and Call of Duty 4 all the time on this thing. I run both at max resolution (1366x768), with all TF2 settings on max and CoD4 settings on medium. Crysis also works well at 720p, although with minimum settings for the most part. Rome: Total War has not given me any lag with all maximum settings, and pretty much everything else I've tried runs perfectly. Unreal Tournament 2004, Half-Life 2 and the episode expansions, Halo: Combat Evolved, Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and Age of Empires II, to name a few.

    Thanks for all the help.

This next question may sound stupid but...

What if I wanted to upgrade my video card so i can get into using Nintendo and other emulators. What type of video card should I be looking for to handle this task.

On this laptop, the ATi 4570 is the only dedicated option. It's still plenty powerful for most emulators.

Most emulators actually use very little graphic power especially the older ones i.e. Nintendo, SNES, Genisis... It's only when you start to get into the higher end GPU playstation, dreamcast, etc.

min. specs for Dreamcast emu "Chankcast" - Intel Pentium 4, AMD Athlon XP or any other processor that supports SSE (2 Ghz or faster recommended)
ATI Radeon or Nvidia GeForce video card (or any other card that supports hardware T&L)
    DirectX 9b
Windows XP, 2003 or 2K (other Windows versions will not work)

So even then I would imagine you could get some of these more advanced games to run...
