    So :(

So they replaced my motherboard and processor as it's all integrated so it was all fine and dandy when the tech left.

Then I try playing a game or 2 an hour later.

    System Failure! :(
I knew the fan was going on too hot!

So they'll have to send a fan to me...man I hope the tech guy can come back tomorrow! I'm home for the weekend from college which is an hour away but it'll be a huge pain this week...bah 2 midterms too (calc 2 makes me sad)

So apparently fan + replacement of motherboard/graphics card is the possibly solution :/

So they're going to give me a fan now. Huh.

I'm getting 68 Celsius which is high? I'm using Nvidia NTune.

And this is on idle. :(

Edit: If I play CoD4 for 10 seconds, it jumps to 101 C

    Is that bad :(

    Have you seen this thread?

There are other reports of temperatures in the 100C range on the GPU in the Vostro 1400. Those people were overclocking their cards, but apparently the heatsink for the GPU inside the 1400 doesn't have adequate ventilation.

But check out the rest of the thread. They also discovered the CPU was heating up the GPU.

and some pictures of the insides

    Cool thanks.

So I should not use my laptop since at "idle" it is hovering @ 68 C after a while?

    It's @ 62 C right now.

I have an Inspiron 1420, which is the exact same an the 1400 except for colour (same internal components, etc.). 68C/100C is far too hot for the GPU, have you tried using LaptopVideo2Go drivers (try the 169.09 drivers)? My Idle/Gaming temperatures are around 48/85.

    Yeah. That's what I thought.

The fan is probably what is broken and messed up my stuff in the first place.

New fan incoming but that means my laptop is essentially not usable by me for a week :/

It could be the fan, or whatever regulates when the fan comes on.

It could also be that the pads that are supposed to make contact between the processor and/or GPU and the heat sink aren't making good enough contact.

Well either way, they're going to send a tech guy soon...probably tuesday.

Guy who came on Saturday seemed good.
