I just bought my laptop last night, it's currently in the testing stage. Anyways I'm wondering if there is anywhere on this site that has a guide on what to do when I get the laptop. Like making back up things and setting everything up, I checked the guides section and it didn't have any. Thanks!

Make sure you install the latest security updates for your operating system as well as updates for your anti-virus software.
Do what you usually do when purchasing any electronic equipment. Visually inspect your notebook, check your screen for dead pixels, make sure your optical drive is working, check your system properties to make sure the components are what you ordered (e.g. ram, cpu etc).
As for back ups, I usually prefer having an external HDD.
Oh, and before all that, it is usually recommended to charge your battery overnight before you use your notebook.

There's no need to back anything up initially. Dell should give you the OS disc, so if something happens you can just reinstall. If you don't get the disc then call or email and request it.

    I would do this:
    - update the OS using windows update
    - update the drivers using the Dell driver utility

    Then (optionally):
    - download and install Avast
    - download and install Firefox

    Then do whatever you like.

Yes I'm in the US, I ordered my Vostro at around 11pm EST on 8/2. It is currently in the "Boxing" stage but still set to ship out on August 17. Does anyone think I could get it earlier?

I think Dell dates me, probably cause I cancelled like 5 times. It's still in build stage and I ordered earlier than you :(
