and I ordered one! Does anyone think it is a good deal?

    Vostro 1500

    T5470 Core 2 Duo
    80GB 5.4k SATA
15.4" WXGA w/Truelife (and in the order status page it says its an LG! Woohoo!)
    1GB DDR2-667
    256MB 8600M GT
    1390 Wifi
    DVD+/-RW
    6-cell battery

I also ordered it with a 1yr return to depot. I am guessing in a years time something with an 8800M ought to be released so i'll probably upgrade :) Total price was $639, adding tax and shipping brought it to $700.88, probably the cheapest a laptop with this GPU will ever be. Actually I am hoping I can call them up and get them to refund the $19.99 on the shipping and handling, as right now on the outlet EVERY other kind of computer they are selling is getting free s/h except the Vostros.

Oh, and I just logged into my order status and it says "Delivery Preparation" and Ship Date says today. Pretty quick considering I ordered it about an hour and a half ago.

The 8700 and 8800 will never be available on a 15.4" notebook that doesn't have a huge cooling solution and is probably 2-3" thick.

Yes but if you're on vista, you made a big mistake with 1GB RAM. I'm you you can self-upgrade it though

Lucky, in Canada it starts at $700 with aX3100, Celeron Mand 512MB RAM

I expect that will be the case. Although I can always hope for something like an 9600M GT maybe? Or better yet, I can just completely sell and then repurchase the new machine once it is available at a reasonable price. The prices have dropped so much that it's almost pointless to do self-upgrades anymore.

I have a 1GB DDR2-667 stick to put into the Vostro when it arrives to bring it to 1.5GB. It does have Vista Home Basic, but i'll be installing XP Pro on it too and then sticking with whatever runs faster.

Yeah, its too bad Canada never gets the good deals like we get in the US. It can't seriously cost that much more to market and sell up there than it does here in the US..

No surprise shipping wise... Outlet stuff is already prebuilt and sitting in a box waiting to be shipped out ;)

Hate to say it, but since Vostro's have been shipping quickly, chances are the ones in the outlet might be machines that were sent back because of grainy screens...that's my skeptical guess anyways..

Yeah, people just like to think that there is a reason they purchased 2GB+ of ram.

I might just end up using Vista if I can run it with the win2k interface and the extra junk shut off. After all, Vista should theoretically be more stable than XP as it would get updates and security fixes released first, right?

win32asmguy: I am curious to know how your laptop turned out? Or anyone else who purchased a vostro 1400/1500 from Dell outlet. Did it have a grainy screen?
