Just got this brand spankig new laptop. And, as many others have noted, the resolution keeps resetting itself when I close the lid. I don't want to disable the power function. All the drivers are up to date (as far as I can tell.) What can I do?

Install VNC (ultravnc.sourceforge.net) and when the lid is closed (make sure your laptop doesn't go to sleep when you close the lid), connect to it and reset the screen res.

For whatever reason, the screen changes resolution when the lid closes, and then goes back to normal when you open it. This was the only way I could figure out how to make the change stick.

Just change the setting so nothing happens when the lid is closed.

I think this is a Vista thing with sleep, seams to happen on every Vista computer I use. It usually resets itself, but makes a complete mess of your desktop if you have a few icons on it!!

I actually think I might have figured this out. Rather than resetting the resolution on the desktop, try going to "Control Panel --> Additional Options --> Intel (R) GMA Driver for Mobile" the next time it resets itself to fix the resolution. I did this and it has been fine the past couple times it has come out of sleep. Hopefully this isn't just a fluke...

This is a problem with the x3100 driver. The original driver that comes with xps m1330 is 7.14.10.1253 and some of the laptops seem to have this common problem, though not all.

Unfortunately the most recent drivers from Intel are not fully compatible with the quickset features, such as showing the level of brightness and so I am not using the latest driver for this laptop.

Instea I downloaded the updated driver from the 1420 series from the dell driver website wich seems to have soved my problem.

This is an issue with Vista.

I have seen this happening with my m1330/D620/D630.
Its not just only the X3100. I have seen this with my 8400GS and the Quadro 110NVS on the D620

So far with Vista SP1, I have not seen this with my M1330. (the D620/D630s in my fleet are all back on XP)
Vista SP1 seems to remember my external monitor settings as well now.

    Perhaps you could try SP1.

I'd love to upgrade to sp1 but according to the MS site faq if MS Update notices that you have a laptop that incorporates some drivers etc that may conflict with Vista they will not make sp1 available to you until updated drivers are available.

I updated my desktop but my Dell 600m is no go ... and this resolution resetting problem is a pain in the rear at times.
