I own a M1330 and I've been trying to get rid of the annoying CPU whine but I can't seem to find the "correct" way to do it. How did YOU solve it?
I found these 3 alternatives (the first 2 are using RM Clock). Are there any other ones? If not, which one is the best in Windows XP?
1.
This guy checked "Enable Popdown Mode" and unchecked "Enable Popup Mode" in RM Clock..

2.
..while this guy did the opposite and unchecked "Enable Popdown Mode" and checked "Enable Popup Mode"

3.
This I haven't tried yet but it sounds very power consuming.

I had it returned, and so far it works flawlessly. lol
Joke aside, when I had the power plug in. It works if I set it to power saving mode. Although, the same methode didn't work for me if I had it runing on battery. -
Just return it. It shouldn't be a hassle for the consumer to fix something the provider failed to fix.

i never had the problem to begin with.........
-
weeeee, you're right.
First I felt power/voltage in the palmwrest and had it sent to support. They fixed it although it took 3 weeks and now I've been irritating myself on this noise for 4 weeks. I currently live in Japan and bought the computer 2½ months ago.. I just called Dell up and told them I want to return it. They told me someone from sales would get back to me as the technician couldn't help me with that. We'll see what they say when they call me tomorrow..
Besides from the noise the notebook is perfect. -
Glad I could help.

3 returns.. now waiting for Penryn hoping that will fix it. I don't really want to go with a solution like RM Clock that will reduce battery life.

I just notice my whine today too...sigh everything is so perfect but just today I notice the whine....sad
-
How noticeable is the whine? Is it so irritating that you can't help but notice, or do you have to *try* and listen for it?

Neither of the two m1330's I have are plagued by the dreaded whine!
-
I got 3 replacement and it is still whining. I don't want to go through all the trouble and return/exchange it again. Dell will probably blacklist me

I noticed the whine again today while taking notes in a lecture hall with 250 other students. It was subtle but noticeable. I can't even contact Dell to address this problem. 24/7 XPS support my butt.

I'd say the whine was somewhat noticeable. During my lecture, my friend from 3~4 feet away from me was asking me if I heared some weird high pitch noise...... I was pretty embarrased by it, and I decided to return it after 3 exchanges.

I used the 1st method, works for me, and doesn't eat up much battery life.

This isn't about the whine, but wanted to see if anyone was having the same problem we have encounted with our Dell M1330. Purchased it in December and still have been unable to purchase a broadband card to use with it. Our service provider is AT & T and it looks like Dell sold us a product that has yet to have a wireless card available for it. Contacted Dell over and over and they told us to purchase an adapter $200 and then when card comes out can purchase it also....$200.
I don't know, but feel like this is wrong that they sold me a product that parts aren't even available and now could be out $400 more to have internet and email???? If wireless is available, the product works, but have yet to be able to get a card for areas where there is no wireless.....any advice and help would be appreciated!!!!!!
So how did everyone solve the cpu whine on M1330?
