cancel and reorder w/ the remote, that seems to be the only way.

because dell is retarded, everyone is going through hell to try and get one without reordering, so there isnt a sure fire way to get one, I'm still trying and the keep telling me to wait until i get my computer, but then people with their computer say dell won't ship it by itself. You cannot buy it by itself either. Really your best bets are to reorder or forget about the remote.

I tried to get dell to include the remote on my system using the part number 412-0961. No go he would not do it. I ended up buying the blue tooth remote for 60 dollars... twenty minutes later I decided to cancel since that was too much.. but now they say it is too late and i have to return it. Which I will that is too much for a remote that only works in media center. The part number for the bluetooth remote is A0691231. Here is the link to that: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0691231

The good news is this remote can recharge itself in the express card slot and has a built in li-on battery. Also can be used for many other functions such as powerpoint presentations. This is not the one that people are talking about in the forums. That one has a battery. But I can't get anyone at dell to add that to my system or even acknowledge its existence. :(

Also, the travel remote is IR. So the question is, does the 1420 offer IR suppport? The 60 dollar one supports bluetooth but I don't think it supports dell media direct which is what I would want. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, I go the IR remote. It fits in the express card slot. It has a small battery, like calculator size. It only works with media direct or the media centre software that dell uses. Once you're using the media direct software it works like a tv remote. It was a free option when I ordered back in June. It's a neat idea, I'm still freaked out about losing the darn thing though lol I was playing around with it yesterday.

Thats great.. but I can't get dell to acknowledge this even exists.. I would like it since it supports media direct.. the more expensive blue tooth one does not.

So dell.com does not offer it as an option when you configure a system? I ordered from dell.ca and it was the dell travel remote IR. The last choice under the media accessories. Weird that they wouldn't even know about the part.

dell travel remote IR is available only when ordering a system from home/office or small business (vostro). Not available via EPP. Not available separately on the site. Only during a new build.

A lot of us ordered before it was on the site.

Yes I see that on dell.ca Now my question is the the US version of the 1420 even support IR? I don't remember seeing a tv tuner option either on the 1420 but its offered on the ca model. The only option is the blue tooth one that cost 60 dollars and no media direct support. I am about ready to give up on this. This reminds me years back when I bought a creative JB3 player. The JB3's shipped with a remote in Europe.. but was never offered in the US.. I finally ended up with one years later. It was shipped to me as a replacement part for the JB3 dock.. They only had a few and 99 percent plus never got one in the US. I am wondering why the 1420 in Ca offers a TV card as well.. Its very possible that these two machines have different hardware. I am thinking no IR in the US 1420.

1420 has integrated IR support under the trackpad area. The remote stuff is also shown in the Owner's manual for it.

    Regardless of US/Canada.

Calling.. again.. this time will try talking to US based sales.. the Indian support is full of dead ends... and scripts galore.

Ok... Dell.com won't sell it to me.. They said if Dell.ca does.. it has to ship to Canada. About the only way do do this is to know someone in Canada and have it shipped to that address. Then ship it back to me. But it looks like its a dead end here.

it isn't sold alone..which is really retarded. you can only get it bundled with your laptop which is ANNOYING because EPP didnt even have that option when I (and other people) ordered ours!

Pragun, did you order from Dell.ca or Dell.com? Just wondering if anyone has managed to get one in the US. Because I have talked to a half dozen people including a manager and they won't do it for me.. even If I were to cancel and reorder system. Man I hate when they mess around with accessory support by regions.. Creative does this crap all the time too.
