Hey buds, finally ordered a M170 off of Dell's website
Specs:
Intel P-M 760 (2GHz) | 1GB RAM | 7800GTX | 60GB 7200RPM HDD | WUXGA Truelife | 1 year Warranty
Price: $2,024.00
I used NO coupon. I got this deal by going to XPS Performance Deals (little box to the right on the page of the M170 & M140) I changed the specs on it, and the cost was $1,674.00. After tax it was $1,778.64
I think i got a good deal. Opinions, comments? Anything you dont like about your M170?
Thanks

It's a great deal - good job man.
Something tells me we'll start to see the P-M XPS on sale as they introduce the Core Duo versions... -

Nice Nick...you will love it when it comes.
-
Hey nickspohn i went to the website of dell and went to the xps deals to the m170 but i cant seems to find the special box to lower the price. Its a great deal that you got plus the video card is very nice. Can you please help me out were exactly to find it or can you post a link on that page. Thanks.
-
Whoa - a great deal! Makes me want to cancel my Inspiron 6400/E1505 order...nice find pimp!
-
Hey thanks guys. For the ones that are curious:
(Just check the arrows)
Thanks again guys!
All you need to do is downgrade the options. If you do this with the lowest base price ($1999) and use a coupon, it will be $1800, without tax. -
I went through that same process as well, but I also added the Intel 2915 wireless card and Dell bluetooth card. I was able to get additional savings by:
Ordering through fatwallet.comm with their 3% discount
Purchased a $35 Dell coupon for home on eBay.
I spoke with one of the sales guys via the chat application on Dell's website. The sales guy gave me another coupon for $25.
After all that, final price came down to $1656. -
Hope you like your new systems guys! You both got great deals! By the way nickspohn how can you live with all of that stuff running in the task tray! You have like 20 things! It must really slow down your machine.
-
Thanks. The XPS M170 shipped on Friday with delivery date on Monday, 4/3. I can't wait!
-
Thanks! I got the 2915 as well, but no Bluetooth, But i plan on ordering the 350 bluetooth from Bal`zar
Jason - For some reason, i really dont see a speed drop. Even on a 1.4GHz Banias! I closed them all out, and the speed didn't change much. For NHC alone it has 4 icons.
Ah, i cant wait to get mine as well. Mine just completed Kitting and Build last night...i hope it doesnt stay in Testing and boxing for days now.
Oh, and is it possible, to have UPS not sign for the package? I just wanted to confirm this before i call the extension i got from Dell, on their online chat.
Thanks! -
i wonder how long it will take now. It was processed, kitted, and built all last night. Now its in testing, and has been all day. No rush though, i cant wait to get this thing
-
I also finally ordered M170 this past week after waiting for e1705 order over a month and a half. I used $750 coupon that Dell reps gave me but my system still ended up at $1797. I got 2 yrs. warranty and accidental damage on top of the 1999 system. I was counting on my order of e1705 with 7800GO but after almost 2 months wait, I just can't stand it anymore. I don't know much about the M170 (especially compare to the e1705) but I hope the M170 will kick butt.
-
Good to hear moozyne!
I really wanted something that will last a long time...im not a heavy gamer, and actually wish the notebook had a more casual cover on it. But that is just me -
-
good job!
Well, ill be doing a lot of upgrading, so thats why i low speced everything... -
u will love it men trust me -
-
I ordered mine on 3/30 and Dell has already finished testing it when I last checked the status on 3/31. Hopefully, I'll get in early next week since I got a free shipping upgrade to next business day. I won't be doing a lot of gaming on this m170 either but I'll definately be doing a lot of 3D stuff for work. Like you, nickspohn, I'm planning to do upgrade the system myself too. Do you know where to get good deal on memory? Does the m170 accept 667MHz memory stick? I guess I'll be doing more research on those aftermarket once I get the beast.
-
Im not sure on the 667MHz memory stick (i doubt it) but i would get it from Newegg.
And thats good to know, because i ordered my the day after, so i hope it will pass testing tommorow then. Since it was just ordered on Friday.
How did you get free next buisness day shipping? -
I got the free shipping upgrade while I was waiting for my e1705 order. Dell delayed my order 3 times (almost 2 months wait) and finally offered me the M170 for replacement with the $750 coupon. So naturally, I asked for the next business day on this order too. I'll let you know when I get my order.
-
Okay, i thought it was an offer i missed out on. Ill be here
-
nickspohn, since you know a whole lot about laptop than I do, do you know how is the m170 performance compare to e1705? I was really kind of bum when I had to cancel my e1705 because I was really hyped about getting the Core Duo.
-
Well, the 7800GTX blows the x1400 away...you made a smart move there. The x1400 in 3dmark05 (graphics test) the x1400 gets about 1200. In comparison, the 7800GTX gets 7000.
With the CPU, it is a bummer, but really no big deal. if your a heavy multi-tasker, then it would be nice. Plus our XPS's will have the old 915 chipset, while the E1705 has the 945 chipset. There are more differences as well, but in all, the XPS beats the E1705, in my opinion
on a side note, i managed to get a Dell DJ Ditty for free today -
Well, my e1705 order was supposed to come with 7800GO so it would have been perfect for me. I'll definately be multi-tasking but I just can't wait for my ideal e1705 for another 2 months. I'm sure the m170 won't disappoint me. Can't wait to get it. Thanks for the info nickspohn!
-
Trust me, we are not going to be sad with our XPS's
We even have special support -
-
I can hardly wait for my new system. Looks like were getting the 78000 gtx for the same price we would have paid for a x700 in a Sager! -
They are offereing them free with all XPS notebooks currently. If you bought your XPS a few days ago, and you arent getting a DJ Ditty, call Dell, (talk to them online would be better) and they can get you one free. It might take a few reps to get through, but its worth it.
-
I just realized that I too got a Dell DJ Ditty for free for my m170 order. It shows on the bottom of my system components sheet with $0 cost. I don't even know what it does but yippee freebie!
-
It is a MP3 player, worth $80 off of Dell
-
Thanks nickspohn! It took me about 4 diferent reps/departments but they are going to send me one for free, seperate from my notebook order.
Thanks again!! -
ooooh... i came home today and got my surprise! 2 unopen boxes from dell. yup, M170 has finally arrived. woohoo. one for the laptop and one for the DJ Ditty. that freebie mp3 player is actually pretty cool looking too. well, gonna go play with my new toys now. oooh.. im getting hypnotized by those blue lights.
-
lucky...Dell is taking there time
What day did you order? If i remember, it was the 30th.
My Dj Ditty has been on hold since i requested it...
I can not wait to get this thing...i just cant -
i ordered mine on 3/30 but i also got upgraded to next business day. they finished building and testing on 3/31. all it was left for them yesterday was just to box and ship. what is the status on yours, nick?
-
Wow, thats nice
I ordered on 3/31
Its out of Building and Testing...now its been in Boxing since yesterday morning (basically 2 days) Now i hope it ships out tommorow
As now i still have 3-5 days on the shipping -
They must be having a shortage of boxes...mine's stuck at boxing too. =P Ordered it on the 30th as well, but later in the afternoon so who knows.
-
I can't wait!!!!
-
Nah, its just being shipped from Malasyia to the US at this time. Thats why it takes a while. It has to check in there, and then goes through the whole process
-
Hurray, it shipped today. Its in transit now. Wonder if the 3-5 day shipping kicks in now. i also i hope i can get the tracking number soon, because i need it sent to a UPS store...but Dell is known to ship it without updating the site
-
USAFdude02 NBR Reviewer & Deity NBR Reviewer
Yeah Nick, the 3-5 starts now. Dell site per them is updated ever 24-72 hours...so that's that. LOL...well can't wait to hear what you think of your new toy.
-
Just to make sure - It says "In Transit to local carrier" UPS has the XPS? The 3-5 day shipping starts right now? When can i get the tracking number?
-
USAFdude02 NBR Reviewer & Deity NBR Reviewer
Well that means it is going to the Fedex or UPS site. So it might start tomorrow...they are always late posting the tracking numbers. I would check tomorrow and chat or talk with them.
-
Wow, this was unexpected.
I get my XPS tommorow! -
nick, try to contact dell and ask for tracking number. i had to chat with a sales reps to get those numbers. dell never sent me tracking numbers.
-
The tracking number is on thier website, im tracking it through UPS now.
UPS says it will be delivered tommorow. I talked to a dell rep and they insisted it was tommorow too(their website said different)
I cant wait! -
They are pretty quick, once the status says shipped. I purchased an e1505 and it said it shipped on Sunday. It was delivered to my office on Tuesday morning. I was sent the tracking number after I received it! LOL!!
Anyway I purchased the m170 on Sunday and refused shipment of the e1505. My m170 is in boxing now and has been since yesterday. I'm praying I get it in time for the weekend!!!
Enjoy your new shiny toy and have sweet dreams tonight of kick as gaming tomorrow!! -
Darn, UPS rescheduled the order... I get it on Friday now, which is not good, because now i need it to go to a UPS store...
-
I feel your pain, nick. I just did my own share of waiting, tracking, laughing, crying, and nail biting recently. When you finally get it, it will all be worth it though.
-
I hate how UPS says it will be delivered by a cretin date then they deliver later by a day or two. Why don't they put their expected delivery dates back a day or two so they won't disappoint people.
-
So i finally ordered a XPS M170
