My Dell Inspiron N5010 (15R) fell to the ground yesterday. There was no damage to the delicate systems, but I have this loud buzzing noise coming from the fan assembly. I'm sure there is something wrong with the fan... I'm not sure what it is. Also, when I tilt the thing sideways, the noise just stops.

    Any opinions?

    Thanks.

Perhaps replace the cooling system, it is quite some work on the N5010, you need to remove the systemboard, which documentation can be found in Dell's service manual.

You don't necessary need to replace the fan as it sound like the fan orientation is off and scratch the shell.you can open it and try to push it back right. but a new fan from ebay should cost no more than 20bucks.

    Thank you for the suggestions.

I'm gonna try to check if the fan's orientation is indeed off, otherwise I'm just gonna send it to the repairman to get it replaced.

I don't know the 15R well, if the disassembling is hard as suggested by Tsunade, probably you should just bring it in.

    Hi CeeKei,

I agree with the baiii and Tsunade, your fan might need to be readjusted. If you are not comfortable with doing this yourself (and if you have complete care) you can send it to Dell. If you do not have complete care, you can talk to Tech Support who will be able to give you more information.

I would call Dell and simply explain them the problem. They usually send a tech to your house in the next couple days to look at it. Don't send them your laptop it'll come back 1 month++ later
