So, 100GB is not cutting it anymore, is this a good drive for my M1210?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160

Thinking of getting that to replace my 100GB drive I've had in it for almost 2 years now.

Anything better or bigger but just as fast?

and one more question here. does anyone know the part number to order a second HD tray for the M1210? I cannot seem to find it on the site...

I would go for the 7k200, as speed is always a problem with 5400rpm drives. I wish I had spent the extra few dollars and gone for the 200GB 7200rpm over the 320GB 5400rpm I have.

I don't think it would make a big difference but noticeable if you're running photoshop and in some games.

    Here's another question then.

The Hitatchi is an OEM. Anyone know if they still warranty the drive if it is not in a box?

Hmmmm, Best Buy near me has the 200 GB drive as well for $180 but no rebate. So if the New Egg one will not be warrantied, I'll just get that one...

Just a quick bump on this, thinking of going out soon to get the Best Buy one if you all think the other wont be warrantied.

Due to the way that hard drives work I'd suspect that the performance between those two would be the same. With the 2.5" drives the number of platters and read / write heads doesn't change -only the rotation speed of the disk or the bit density. So even though the 320GB drive is only spinning at 5400 RPM the bits on it are packed together on the disk about 50% more than the 200GB drive which is spinning about 50% faster. It's the same increase...

so go with a 320 then from NewEgg? Still don't know about warranties on an OEM drive...

Ow, wow. Maybe I'll get the BB one anyways, it comes with a USB enclosure so I can copy my current drive to it.

OEM simply means that it's not in a fancy box.

Right, but NewEgg on thier FAQ mentions that OEM parts do not enjoy as robust of a warranty sometimes, and when I have bought from them before, there is usually a section at the bottom that says "Manufacturers Warranty: 3 years" or the like. Now they no longer have those disclaimers...plus, I do need an external drive enclosure to clone the drive anyways...

Will a SATA 3.0gb work on my SATA 1.5gb computer?

Well, I got the 200GB-7200rpm Hitatchi at BB. Fast and quiet, so I am pleased. Plus, my 100GB is now an external drive since it came with the kit. Ugly enclosure, but it works.
