I have the keyboard off now, and all the coke seemed to say localized to the keyboard. There are no drips inside the system itself.

Can I just run the keyboard under warm water and leave it set over the weekend? Everything in it rust proof and ok to put water on?

    Thanks all.

Why dont you send it back to dell and have them change it, thats a better idea.

You might be lucky. Depends if it was running when the liquid hit it...

Make sure the water is clean, maybe boiling some letting it cool then pouring it over should be ok as you don't want anything left.

Make sure its bone dry before applying any power...

    Just take it apart.
Search it in google how to take it apart.
Place keyboard in a drawer by itself than once dryed.
Wash with warm water or rubbing achol also take every key off the board once done.
    Rebuild done.

Call up girl saying that you had to get it replace and you want some form of payment.

No worries, since it doesn't have any calories, it won't make your M1210 any thicker. That's what you were worried about, being seen with a fat notebook, right?

I'd get the keyboard replaced, because even if it works now, it may malfunction from this later. That being said, of course turn off the notebook immediately and take out the battery. Turn it upside down. Remove the keyboard and wash it out under spicket with clean cool water. blow and air dry the keyboard. cross fingers, and eyes. replace. don't sit near girl again.

    Was it a "spill-proof" keyboard?

Probably you can clean it out, and make sure it's dry like miprs4 said.

Well, I have the keyboard off, and it is spill proof in that nothing can get into the laptop from it. That's teach me to have a drink in class; she walked by and one of her 3 bags knocked it over >.>

I mean, the keyboard just seems to be fine, and nothing is sticking, just figured I'd run water through it to make sure.

Ran it under warm water, letting dry for 48 hours. Seems fine so far.

Forgive me for being excited about your accident, but its good to hear that the m1210 is built so well. Do this to a macbookpro and you'd be screwed.

They used to advertise the m1210 as a ballistic model, then stopped. I'm glad to see they left those features in.

I really believe that despite its mediocre image the m1210 was one of the best notebook bodies made.

Make her pay for the repairs. Good luck though. If someone spilled something on my computer at school, I'd probably kill them. If not I'd go get water and pour it into the fan on their system.

    Lesson to be learned here:
No matter the circumstances. Keep sodas and beverages away from your precious laptop.

Not sure that will clean it. Will probably remove some dissolved gases and kill some bacteria but it will just concentrate dissolved salts (unless it is the steam you collect and cool).

I spilt some decent German Weissebier over my Inspiron 8200 keyboard some years ago.

Power off, Battery out, upended it over a sink, trickled water down through the keyboard, and dry thoroughly. No problem, it has worked fine ever since...

I agree distilled water is the best for rinsing the keyboard and have to dunk several times to loosen the. Since Zero has basically no sugar content it won't become sticky. I would have it air dried instead of blow dry. If you had accidental coverage you can just send it in to Dell and have them fix/replace it.

Coke likes to dissolve in Coke -- so basically, soak the affected parts in Coke, and then rinse with distilled water.

If you use tapwater, it might leave a mineral residue.
