Ask nVidia. Oh wait, they aren't talking...

In all fairness, probably not a problem. But you never know.

Supposedly not, as the 9 series dies are made from a different material.

Let's hope not. Then again, I'd rather see ATI in the next line anyhow.

Nope, AFAIK, the 9 series are not having the faulty components.. Apparently, nVidia 'fixed' it!! Whatever that means..

I don't, since ATi dosen't have anything competitive with Nvidia, plus I *still* have better luck with Nvidia's drivers.

I've tried ATi a few times but the drivers and control panel stuff made me turn away. Too much hassle. I'd rather have a Nvidia graphics card tbh.

And you could be somewhat sure that the GPU:s being produced today doesn't suffer from the trouble the previous ones have. It'd be pretty stupid of Nvidia to go out this information that previously produced chips are faulty while continuing shipping uncorrected ones.

Yeah, you'd sure think this would be corrected, hopefully, and several big companies continue to ship 8600GT cards. Even if it's not, I'll be getting a long warranty on mine anyway.

And yeah, the issues I had even trying to correct the way a DVD (of all things!) displayed on my Radeon system pushed me away from ordering the 1735 this weekend while it was on sale. Other than the initial Vista driver problems Nvidia had, and some issues for the first two weeks after the launch of the TNT 1 (I bought it at launch day), I've never had issues with their drivers. (And to me having issues with a new OS that get corrected as fast as they can is different from the kinds of issues I see on my ATi parts).

It's too bad too, because the 4870 is a very impressive piece of hardware, and I continue to like that they give Nvidia competition!

I thought it was the chipsets - G84 and G86. Are any of the 9xxx series cards running a g84 or g86 chipset?

not chipsets.... the most discussed and theorized point is that the base of the nVidia cards(8600 and 8400) are of an impure material.... repeated cooling+heating means expansion, and impure materials expand at a different rate, meanign the card would have minute cracks and eventually stop working

Inquirer is pointing that 9xxx cards suffer from the same problem...

nVidia publicly admitted that only certain batches of 8400/8600 cards suffer from this problem and all other batches/cards do not have this impure mixture....

    who do you believe?
