So, ya gonna stick around after you get your Dell?

As I write this, it's pretty unbelievable to see that ALMOST EVERY SINGLE THREAD on the 1st page of the Dell main forum is about shipping problems and delays... well maybe not that unbelievable, lol. I must say that it's been quite a journey already with all of you folks, and (prepare sappy music for corny statement) I feel like there's been some nice commiserating going on while we all (ok, most) are uniting against the Evil Empire (cue Imperial March music). No actually, I think that Dell's doing the best that they can... which I realize is not good enough for many people, but hey, I think that it's quite nice of them to offer concessions, credits, etc. for our hardships.

So having said all of that, how many of you are going to still browse and post after receiving your new systems (and thanks to those of you that have received and are sticking around to reassure and tantalize the rest of us poor saps)? And maybe more importantly, how many of you will remember this long journey-o-delays a few months or years from now? Maybe all of that will fade once the precious machine is in our hands? Or maybe not, lol.

Meanwhile, let's keep supporting each other. Good luck to all, and I can't wait until batches of us start to receive our systems. It'll be like a Happy Birthday to us all! Can't wait to witness it!! Wow, can't you feel the love?!? (I know I know, over/under on this thread lasting is probably 2 hours before it hits page 10...)

 

I'd say about 5% to 9% stay, and that's pushing it. Reason being, this site is of no 'use' now, since everyone has what they wanted(or will soon....hopefully). There has been alot of similiar events in the past with massive influxes, but when it all calms down, people leave cause, simply, they have better things to do, a life to return to.

For those that don't, you're always welcomed here =)

I'll try my best to stay. As I said in another thread I'm thinking of pumping out a review when I get my 1520. It would be nice to have some more people that actually have their notebooks to provide information and, as you said, reassurance.

I certainly see no reason to leave. I may be caught up playing some games that have been released over the last 2-3 years that I can't play on my desktop, but I'll still have time for you guys!

 

Some day we'll look back fondly and say, those were the best weeks of our lives. We had some troubles, things were rough, but we stuck together and helped each other. In the end, that's what matters.

We could have a reunion in 10 years and sing "Aud lang syne".

 

I'll probably stay on the forum to discuss gaming/graphics cards and help people who have questions about their 1520. Once school comes around I'll won't be on any forum.

yes, I will probably remember these weeks of summer 07 for a long time. all of us sticking it out and waiting for our laptops. me hitting my desk everytime that order status lady said "build stage".

depends if i actually get it lol... i called today asking what they could do for me with the same discount i used to order the 1500 and do that on the 1700 or 1720 either one i told them i didnt care.. the rep nicely took my phone number and said ill call you back .... never got a call.. ill try again tomm... i told her i want to upgrade to the 1700 model ... but i used a 25% off coupon and have a 50$ credit applied to my account and i dont want to loose those.. didnt sound like she was going to budge..

You mean in about 3 years when we all show up again looking to buy new laptops, and get the same problems from Dell.

I'm going to write a nice in-depth impartial review. I've had HP my entire life, so this is a welcome change. I'll probably drop in every once and a while to tease those less fortunate (yes, I am a bastard )

Being an IT geek well it is my job, IT Supervisor at an airport in the UK, plus all our clients hardware both desktop and laptop are dell. This will be my first personal Dell laptop, have always had HP. But i like to put the word out when new drivers/bioses and such are made available, so i will be around.

I like to think I'll stay. I've "met" some cool people on these boards and have obtained some real hands-on help in getting a good price on the computer I want, and I'd like to give back a bit. Also, people seem to have good ideas on overclocking, etc.; I'd like to stick around to get more advice on what to actually *do* with my computer once I get it.

zfactor, what are you holding out for pricewise in the 1700? You and happyfunball are my two benchmarks for Inspiron value; I don't think I got quite as good a deal as either of you, but I'm happy with what I got (that said, I'm keeping my options open, especially if I see that my delivery will be delayed significantly). Keep in mind that it sounds like you really hit the jackpot with your 1500; replicating that kind of success with the 1700 might be difficult. You've set a very high standard!

 

I like this forum. I belong to one other forum, which I'm slowly but surely ending my relationship with, lol. There is no crying in this forum, which I like (besides all of us crying over the delays But at least we are all crying together, hehe). Plus, I love computers, love being on the internet, love PC games, and like forums. That being said, being on here is a perfect match, haha. Not to mention, I feel like there is more truth here than talking to a dell rep!

 

Unfortunately for us, there is more truth in "Nigerian" spam email than talking to a Dell rep!

 

Well, once I get my laptop, I'll come here occasionally to get questions answered, about drivers, tools, suggestions, etc. But Im moving from California to Italy in 2 months, so Im certainly not going to post 30 posts a day here anymore, lol.

 

When I get mine...I mean, If I get mine, I'll stick around. But I'll do as I have been doing for awhile now, forum lurking. Not much of a poster, but I do enjoy the threads people post here.

Well, I wish a lot of people were more like you on the other forum I belong to. Its just the same question and thread day after day...newbies just don't like to use the search button I suppose! I will admit, however, I was once an annoying newbie myself at one point!!

As for me, however, I usually become a member of a forum because I have a specific question to ask. So I guess I'm the opposite of a "forum lurker" (that just sounds so creepy, haha) The reason I joined this forum was to get some advice on which comp to choose, the 1420 or the xps 1210. I feel I made a good decision with a lot of great help. I don't think I would have found this forum if I didn't need help choosing between laptops. Now that I've found this forum I think I'm here to stay.

Most likely we will. Dell is infuriating to deal with, but no one comes close to them on the price/power ratio. I'm still annoyed at Dell for my *last* computer, but pricing out a similar rig to what I'm getting (1720, T7300, 8600 GT GPU) anywhere else comes out hundreds of dollars more. For that, I'll swallow my pride and gird myself for some unpleasant dealings with customer service.

My after-tax price is currently almost exactly the same is yours; I say "currently" because all bets are off if I get a single delay. Your specs, though, are a little better- identical to mine except I got the DVD burner and you got the color upgrade, the upgraded sound card, and the "expedited" shipping. Then again, I ordered Saturday and have an estimated ship date of 8/21 as of the moment, so I currently have less to complain about.

Once again, "currently."

This is my second go-round on this forum. First when I purchased my hot Toshiba A105-S2101... by hot I mean hot! I need a cooler to just surf the web. I came back when I started looking for a new system.

I plan to stick around after I get my system but I won't be on as much. I plan to get back to designing a game that a friends and myself started working on.

I got burned by Dell a couple years back. I got over it and decided to order again, but this time I have a problem with DHL. I think I'm going to avoid ordering from any place that uses DHL for shipping.

naw, seriously. I'll probably write up a consumer review (an incoming college freshman's perspective or something). you can never have too much. and i will be taking CRAZY PICTURES with an alpine white because I haven;t seen too many.

I'll stick around. But I will need to stop myself whenever Dell comes out with the "next best thing" in a couple of months. Plus this site helps me utilize my computer to it's highest potential.
