And I'm kinda scared now after reading some more forum posts.. about how Dell's quality control isn't to great? I mean... what's their track-record? Are they selling crap?

Knowing my luck I'm probably gona get stuck with one that has some major problem.. and that's not a good situation for me!

I mean I didnt order alot of fancy stuff or anything..
I got the lowest processor.. 2.8.. the 1 gig of ram 7200 rpm harddrive andddddd 128 MB ati card.. alllright well mayeb that is a little more then norm in some notebooks but still..

So.. can someone re-assure me that I am just overthinking this, and chances are my machine will be fine? lol..

I'm sure that well over 90% of their notebooks are fine, but that being said, I wouldn't buy an Inspiron right now. I'm just not sold on the quality and their support when you have issues is some of the worst in the industry. I know it first hand after tons of trouble with my 8200 a year or so ago.

Dude, don't worry about it. Even if there is a problem, dell will jump through so many hoops just to make you happy. I don't know why everyone is questioning thier customer service when all I hear is good stories about getting upgrades.

I reference to the mechanical problems, All new products have kinks. Some are just delayed longer than others so that these kinks can be found. If you just ordered it now it has been out for two months and you won't get it for atleast another 3 or 4 weeks. I should be fine, but even if it isn't, dell won't just say too bad. One story I heard had dell sending a replacement before the customer had sent back the troubled one.

Just focus on the fact that you are getting great specs at a great price. Oh, and try to think about other things before you explode. :)

Zach, you paint a pretty rosy picture, but the reality is that not all new products have kinks, not all new products should be sold and then delayed by 6-8 weeks and Dell does say "too bad" sometimes. If there are issues and they give you a ton of crap, they seem to be very responsive when you get the BBB involved, so that's your backup plan.

I meant that all products have kinks, but not all are sold before those kinks are worked out. read it more carefully.

the power brick doesnt work at all.

and the fans run all the time and/or are really loud. now, i dont know how I will know if htey run to loud, or if they are suppose to be running or not.. lol.. but i guess if its ridiculously loud ill figure that out. i think could get them to send m ea new fan.

Actually, I had the BBB involved because Dell could not or would not fix problems I had on the Inspiron 5150. They kept telling me "it's normal for a screen to flicker on battery." That angered me.

BBB came thru and Dell let me exchange the 5150 for an 8600.
