Well i ordered my Vostro 1700 on Aug 2 and it shipped out Aug 5 so i was really excited (wasn't suppose to ship until the 16th) UNTIL i noticed that my package had been in Atlanta for two days. When i called they said they where sorry but they had apparently lost my package and they would start a search. Now on day 5 i am waiting to hear what they have to say tomorrow (they have been very good about calling 2 times a day) if the still have no idea i am calling Dell. It really stinks i go to school on the 17th and i was so excited to be getting my computer early so i would have it for school. This is the second laptop lost by them in a week that i know of.
-
Man, that sucks! I hope they find it.
-
hope you get ur computer before school.
Im under the same situation -
That's really ****ty, I know how exciting it was when I got my current laptop and it was delayed a day and I COMPLAINED lol I can't imagine waiting and not knowing if it will appear or not. Good luck though
-
Oh man that sucks. Theres probably someone who sees the nice box with the big letters DELL on the side. If I got payed as much as someone at DHL I would steal laptops too. Theres probably a months pay in every box... Does anyone know if DHL is hiring? joking of course.
-
That sucks man. I guess the best thing you could do would be to get Dell to ship you another one and try to get some discounts.
-
best of luck man, thats sucks
-
Yeah complaining to Dell about the ship date--your just wasting your time. Theres nothing they can do. They can't make as much parts as they're getting orders in.
On the other note, let me know how DHL handles your situation. It appears that Dell will have to contact them and put in a request for you to get your money back through the courier. -
Uhm ... why does Dell ship them in boxes that say " D E L L " in HUGE letters??? You know what "lost" really means, right? The same thing happens big time with guitars (they know the shape & weight of the box, even if you "brown bag" it).
There should be no mention of Dell on the box or even on the label. They could use something like D.C.C. (Dell Computer Co.) or something simlar. Dell's packaging is akin to dangling a juicy steak in front of a bulldog and leaving it on the floor in front of him while you leave the house for a few hours.
I feel your pain, man! -
I will not be surprised if during shipping the Vista DVDs are being stollen. It is hard to get too upset on such a small thing as many owners don't even know they are supposed to get it.
No wonder I see so many sealed OS DVDs for sale on Craigslist these days. Where are they coming from? -
Thanks for all the support and yeah i figured i knew what "lost" meant i am hoping to get a huge discount on the laptop and compensation from DHL. I think my count is up to 5 computers that have been lost now. Dell really didn't think through the human variable in the shipping industry. -
That's DHL for you. They're the most unreliable courier out there. I'm on the edge of my seat every time I'm stuck shipping with them.
Good luck pal. You'll need it. -
When you call Dell, beg them, I mean absolutely beg them to send it FedEx or UPS (they may do that anyway). Tell them you have absolutely no faith in DHL.
It's hard to believe that someone can be worst then USPS but it seems DHL is doing they best to do so. -
-
LOL yeah i guess i should have paid the $15 looking back! eye sight is always 20/20 looking back hu?
-
That's "hind" sight, as in siting some fine hind quarters!
-
LOL hind sight looking back you got what i meant didn't you?
-
Thats really a shame DHL lost it! I hope they find it soon!
I havn't used DHL that much before, but I was quite impressed with the fact that they delivered the package to me in less than 24hrs, and I only paid for 3-5 day shipping. -
Man I feel bad for you. They shipped my laptop DHL also and I have not received it yet. DHL is a joke. I'm not sure what Dell was thinking but man are they ever making a stupid decision going with that carrier. I called DHL to give them my building access code so they can deliver my laptop and the stupidest rudest b!tch I've ever talked to in my life basically told me it wasn't their problem. Unreal. I've already emailed Dell about it but have not received a response yet. So, I'm sure it will be just like last time when a company insisted on using DHL, I had to chase them down for 3 days trying to get my package.
-
wow that really sucks...
-
I had a customer who requested for Saturday delivery. We put the request in for 'em and then we find out the request was accepted and the lady at DHL said "no problem we can do that for you!" However a week later the customer asks why his package was never delivered on Saturday and they told us DHL does not do Saturday deliveries....
-
Perhaps it is not DHL to blame. I had one to be delivered to me but DELL supposedly recalled it due to my credit.... even though the charge went through my credit card and is showing a transaction on my statement. I have called DELL to complain and immediately return credit to my card... nothing has happened except terrible customer service emails.
I even got an email through this website from a person from their HQ saying she will take care it specifically. I sent her the info and no response in 2 days... and counting.
They said they would not return credit to my account till they get the laptop back through the DHL however i NEVER received shipment to be able to be held liable... I am currently seeking legal representation... -
No DHL lost it they just submitted the claim to Dell. Dell started off saying they would have me a new laptop by 8 business days, but then they said NORMALLY by 8 business days depending on a few variables. All i could get them to give me was $50 off does anyone have any advice on this matter? I have heard of people getting a lot more money and free items such as printers and things like that for other accidents so should i expect this for a shipping accident? Again thanks for all of they support!
-
Theres only so much they can do. Probably the $50 they give you is when they reached their max limit. People claim they receive $200 here and $200 there and $50 here and so on. But you might already have a great package where your saving even more than that and then that additional $50 is all they can do for you. Remember Dell needs to make at least 6% of margin to stay profitable, they aren't going to sell something where it costs more for them to ship it than they make on it.
-
Good point! Sometimes when i get pi**ed off (been on the phone for 3 hours) i forget common sense LOL I pray the turnaround on this laptop is just as fast as the other (3-4 days!!!)
-
Mine 1420 was shipped on 07/17 from Nashville, TN to Atlanta, GA and to be delivered on 07/18. It showed it is in transit from TN to GA, but never reached GA. It was stolen by DHL theives. They told me to call up Dell and they will file a claim.
Dell promptly replaced my order with a new one to be delivered on 07/27 and as promised i recieved one. But i had requested Dell that please please please dont send my laptop through DHL because they are theives and if you really want to ship through them then i'll come to Nashville and pick it up myself for free...!!! She was laughing and put Fedex as the carrier to deliver.
Also, I asked her how would DHL respond to the lost laptop? She told we give them 3 days to find out or else they provide shipping credit to Dell. And that also not the full price of laptop i paid, but a subsidized rate. So DHL steals the laptop at much subsidized rate and Dell doesnt even has problem with it.
Edit: They gave me $100 on my card back due to the trouble. -
I used to work for CWX, a frieght shipping company. I had friends I worked with, steal everything from laptops, to camcorders, to whatever they could get their hands on. They would have a friend on the other side of a fence and toss it over. It was SO tempting, but I never did it. Theft goes on at these shipping companies all the time.
I hope you get your laptop in a timely fashion. In regards to your subsidized rate comment: I wonder if that's why you only got $50. After all, they already lost profit from DHL. -
wow...scary.
what stops delivery workers from stealing nice merchandise? sounds like its kinda easy.. -
Im sure most of the time people don't steal since they want to keep their job becuase thats how they pay the bills. Probably most of the stealing happens becuase of part time kids who don't really need the job.

hey DoubleBlack, does the 4GB on your 1420 fully usable as RAM?? Because the 32 bit Vista on mine supports only 3GB. May be Vista ultimate would be using 4GB, but i have heard of bluescreen problems, so i have decided to wait for some time.
-
That has nothing to do with Vista, that has to do with the x86 architecture and it only supports 4GB of addressable memory (not RAM). Addressable Memory includes GPU Memory and Shared Memory and BIOS Memory and a whole bunch of other stuff. The TYPICAL amount of RAM for someone with "4GB of RAM" is 3.5GB, but it can vary. You need to install x64 if you want to use your full "4GB of RAM" -
can you please tell what is x64 if its not related to the OS?? Because Dell has given Vista Premium 32 bit, and i had heard that in Vista x64 is only available in Ultimate.

So... DHL lost my package too
