    Dear all,

I've just ordered a studio 1558 (core i7 740qm, 6 Gig Ram, 1080p screen and 650G HDD 5400 RPM) which hasn't arrived but I'm expecting soon. And I've heard about unecessary software bloat on Dell laptops so I'm considering formating the system on arrival...

So what software do these systems come with and how useful have you found it?

Also should I format the entire disk or just the working partition, keeping the recovery partition? By which I mean what's on the partition and is it worth keeping if you know what you're doing?

    Thanks...

    Hugh

i dunno ive always reinstalled windows completely whenver i get a new laptop. To be honest, i don't think there is much difference in speed even with bloatware, expecially with the i series and ddr3 ram, but it gives me a peace of mind.

and i have never used the recovery partition, i dont think its needed unless u screw up ur registry or u got hit by a bad virus or something, correct me if im wrong.

uhh as for software mine came with facial regonition (pretty cool at first, but i never used it after a while as im the only using my comp), some roxio cd burning thing that is useless and 1 or 2 dell software that is useful sometimes.

Get the laptop first before you decide on a course of action. There's not much bloat, and it uninstalls easily enough. Unless you're short on space, leave the recovery partition alone if only to appease Dell's warranty people.

Hugh, My recent 1558 (config similar to yours) did not come with "bloatware". The two things I uninstalled (using Windows Remove Programs panel) were Office 2010 trial and McAffee SecurityCenter trial. Sit back and enjoy your machine when it arrives. Then share your experiences here. :)

I don't even boot the factory install. Straight full format.

I boot mine and make sure everything is working fine then dump their Windows install.

Make sure you install your (latest)drivers in the right order too.

Not much of a bloatware but as somebody above said about removin the trials... etc i think its te best solution with dell not providing the windows DVD these days..... and i hated facial recog.... as it never recognized me so i uninstalled it too ... And prefer not uninstalling the dell softwares like setpoint and support as they sometimes come in very handyy...

Cheers...!!! Congrats for your new lappi
