I have been looking at solid state drives for my XPS 1530. Right now they are just too damn expensive, but I was thinking in a year or two I am sure they will be down to a reasonable price. I am thinking about getting one when they do go down in price, but will I see a huge increase in performance? Also, do these last longer than a regular hard drive? I am a college student so if I can get an extra year or two out of my laptop than that would be great, and I could just transfer the SSD to my new laptop when I get one, right?

Im sure that they will drop probably $150 in the next 2 years. Yes, there will be a big proformance increase. Im not sure if you can replace the harddrive in all laptops though. <At least easily without taking the whole case apart. Some have screws right on the bottom so you can easily replace it.

    Hope I could Help

Well I know that the XPS 1530 you have the option to get a SSD in it from Dell but it's like $800

All the info you can imagine on SSDs is below which includes the SSD in that system specifically, the Samsung 64Gb. Its benchmarks are in the 'New SSD Thread" and its testing is in the "SSD's tested" thread.

Many call their order in and try to get the drive at a discount explaining how expensive it is and just out of their range; their are incidents of success with this.
