    Just purchased the 8600 last night actually and went with

    1.8GHz
    512MB DDR SDRAM 1 DIMM
    128 MB DDR ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600
    40 GB ULTRA HARD drive
    WIRELESS 1450 card

    Have read on here that there can be major over heating problems? That's just great and would be my luck, but what do you expect from a really non-gaming notebook (didn't want to spend the money on a voodoo or alienware). Plus I will be using this mostly for College and gaming lightly on the weekdays and more heavily on the weekend. Do you think buying a cooling pad (not the correct name but you get the idea)would be better then configuring the actual video card. If not do you still feel that either or would work just as good. Thanks for your help.

    Of course I only got the 1 year warranty, like an idiot!

    So what would you do?

    And also why Does Dell Do this to customers?

    The cooling pad would only really cool the RAM and hard disk, since they are close to the bottom of the notebook. You really have to open up the book and take care of it the way we did. Pros: Better heat dissipation, does not drain battery life, overclocking potential, does not ad bulk.
    Cons: You have to open up your precious Dell.
    What warranty did you get? If it is over 1 year, leave it like it is. If it breaks, Dell has to fix it.

    GPU cooling (100°C->75°C)* Inspiron 8600 * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo (337/242 -> 400/300) * 2x256 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * Aquamark 3: 24058 * 3DMark'03: 3404 * 3DMark'01 SE: 13120
