I have a 20" G5 Imac that's getting a little outdated. It has a single core 2GHZ processor that I regularly push to 100% usage just while doing basic things like watching Quicktime or browsing websites while listening to Itunes, etc. It tends to choke up with any high quality videos.

I just ordered a new Studio 15 with a P8400, 250 GB 7200 rpm HD, and 3 GB memory. I'm wondering if I should sell the Imac and use that money to buy a 20" or larger monitor for the Studio, so basically the studio will take over all of my computing needs. I'm thinking that if i like the S15, the Imac will become little more than a large MP3 player sitting on my desk.

If I sell the Imac should i change the P8400 to the T9400? I use my computer for nearly all of my home entertainment like listening to music, watching movies, goofing off on the internet, just no gaming or not yet anyway.

So what would you guys and gals do?

The p8400 should be able to operate quite well with what you will be doing.
I recommend you use your S15 for a while and if you feel that you need to upgrade to a t9400 then do what you said and sell the imac.

I voted sell the iMac, get a monitor, and stick with the P8400. It will be able to handle all of your current needs especially if you aren't gaming and you can save some money. The reason why I said sell the iMac is for at least me, I find it hard to use two computers efficiently. I'd rather have everything I need on one so that I can stay organized. My media storage is on another desktop, but it is organized over there too.

Thanks guys, I think it makes sense to get rid of the Imac and it sounds like the P8400 will be fine. I"ll probably just hold on to the Mac until I'm confident in the S15, then switch to a new desktop monitor

Sounds like a good plan. Keeping it until you know everything is fine and jolly is a good idea, but, especially with a nice big screen, I doubt you'd find yourself using the slower old G5 much after you got the Studio. There just isn't much point in using an older, slower machine, unless you have programs that only run on it (which is actually something to consider since you're going from Mac to Windows). And file synchronization won't be too fun unless you turn on file sharing and keep all your files on one machine or the other.
