So on my 1536 I noticed that the squealing noise got louder and that recently the laptop has been smelling of burning plastic.....

Yesterday it got to 100*c while in TF2 and idled at around 65-70 on desktop doing nothing after being turned off for like 4 hours...the CPU has new AS5 and the heatsink is on nice and tight...

Should I just shut it off, box it up and wait 2 weeks to get my new one from Dell, or should I just continue using it and if it fries, it fries

Squealing, and burning plastic...sounds like something may be caught in your fan, like hair. That would cause noise and heat from all the friction, and slow down the fan as well, so your temperatures would be hotter.

Can't do that as the thermal pad is 3/4 of a cm thick so as5 wouldn't reach the heatsink.

also it is the cpu alone gettin to 100+*c

Woah that is OD to hot, you are running your computer, listen try a couple of ideas,
Run dell diagnostics and see if the fan is running correctly,
    2. Reapply the thermal paste with AS5 even if theres as5 on it, just take it off and put enough to cover the die.
    3. MAKE SURE ALL THE SCREWS ARE TIGHTEN FULLY. I believe there a 6 screws on the studio 15's for the cpu and gpu assembly, tighten them to they cant go no more, I Forgot to tighten mine once and my temps got really high and my fan was running high all the time.
    4. Please dont use the the computer if you getting those temps, your gonna break it.

    GOod luck

Done all of those steps.....still nothing, its not a big problem for me because as I said : I am getting my replacement Dell in like 2 or so weeks....just waiting for the specs now as it has been like 6 business days.....

And if it fries, good. As much as I hate to say it, I really can't care if their laptop overheats for no good reason especially since they are sending me a replacement laptop.....

    Any more ideas?

    OH!

My Bahamut JR Rig @ 3.4 ghz runs at around 80*C full load in TF2 maxed from Game and CCC. Pretty much what this laptop idles at...........

Did you apply the correct amount of AS5? I've found many-an-instance where someone tells me "my temps went UP after I installed AS5!" only to find out they've put WAY too much on. You want a super thin layer -- its a delicate balancing act of getting on the right amount. Like goldilocks, too much is bad, too little is bad, ya gotta be juuuuust right ;)

    Just my .02... ;)

Trust me, I know how to apply AS5 (I have about 5 or 6 years of experience doing it on a regular basis) and I have had my bro check too and he says that it is exactly right since he has been working on computer aftermarket crap longer than I have.

So the AS5 does not seem to be the problem...

Just checking, wasn't trying to doubt you -- like I said, I've just seen a lot of that so it's something I generally ask :)

I understand, I have seen some crazy stuff...most recently a desktop AMD AM2 x2 4200+ running at 121*c due to the HSF being so dusty. it crashed in the bios because of heat....never thought I'd see the day....

Anywho any other ideas on what I should do?

And I can't resort to hammer as that would make em not accept my return and bill me for the replacement  ....
Also strange is that in CoreTemp it reads as a Dual Core Processor with 2 threads but it only provides the temperatures for Core#0 and displays no Core#1 after core 0 as it should (with Intel anyways)...

Here I used Prime95 to achieve the same results as TF2 or any other app that uses the Proc. 100%

As you can see 95, and this is just after 2 minutes....

I'll let my laptop cool off and I will post a pic of it at idle

And this is about 12 minutes after I put it to cool on a notebook pad, infront of an open window with a cool wind gust (20-30km/h) and it was off....so here it is.....

Ok guys Maybe your overheating because its hot in your room. I was just playing burnout paradise and my gpu reached 87 C. This never happened during the winter months.

My room is ~20*c (hehehe AC FTW)

And it is not possible for an Aircooled PC with a q6600 overclocked 1.2ghz over stock, with a 4850 and 2 hot hdd's under full load to be cooler than a notebook, and a notebook with less power, hardware and better heat transfer...

Plus my pc is in the corner of my room where as the laptop stays at around 94-105 in my lap/table/chair/bed/arms.....

We are talking about the CPU here, which should not get nearly this hot....
