    Hey everyone,

Considering a Dell studio 15 or xps 16. Which 1080p screen is the one to get?

The studio 15 has been so many revisions, but which one has the best contrast, brightness, and viewing angles?

Is the xps 16 screen going to be more reflective than true life b/c it's got the frameless plastic cover over it?

Does anyone actually have the specs for the screens? Is there a consensus?

I have the 1080p screen on my studio 15. It's very good to be honest, its extremely bright. I have it on the lowest brightnes setting atm in a sunlit room and it's mroe than adequat. I turn it up when watching movies. Can't comment on the XPS 16 screen, but if its the RGB screen you're talking bout then I've heard its better. The Studio 15 has an awesome-enough screen though.

I have the RGB on my XPS and it is awesome....I have not seen the Studio 15 screen though so I can't comment on that...you may want to calibrate it to lower the red saturation...it is very bright as well...most of the time I run it at half brightness..cheers!!!

I keep on hearing glowing reviews on the 1080P LED screen on the Studio 15's.

If you are not seriously into graphics ... I think you will be fine.

AnandTech has rated the 1640 RGBLED as one of the best laptop screens they've tested within the past year or so. Seeing as there hasn't been a major chassis revision for the SXPS 16, I'd think it fair to assume that that panel is still in circulation.

As with all things screen go, Dell could be using multiple panels in the SXPS 16, but given the relative scarcity of RGBLED equipped laptops, I'd say there's a good chance of getting the good display.

On the flip side, wouldn't expect too much from the Inspiron 15 panel. If standard notebook panels are anything to go by it's probably a fairly bright, low contrast, low gamma type of job; there might be some good panels mixed in the many that Dell probably uses, but I think the chances of getting a decent screen here is slimmer.

But apparently people have good things to say about the Inspiron 15 display... so you never know.

I got the 1080p screen on Studio 1558. The screen is very nice and made by LG. I have heard the other brand on 1558 is AUO and that is considered better than the LG.

btw, anyone knows if there is a way to calibrate the LED screen, it seems colors are a little off.

I just purchased a 1080p Studio 1558 and on my slip it says Philips, if my memory serves me correct is Philips AUO? Could someone confirm or deny that? Thanks in advance.

I have Studio 1555 with an 1080p screen.
Hardware ID for the screen is AUO10ED.
Don't think it has anything to do with Philips, I think it's a brand of its own.

I have an XPS 1645 with the WLED 1080 screen. It's miles better than my the screen on 3 year old Acer laptop (1280x800). So much brighter, colours are more vibrant, much better contrast, and pretty much better in any way I can imagine. As for a comparison between the Studio and XPS screens, I can't help much there, but I do love my XPS screen (non-RGB)

Philips is LG. LG Philips was a JV for display panels by those two firms until 2008. (2nd largest LCD manufacturers in the world, following Samsung) Philips reduced its equity stake and the company changed its name to LG Display.

I just got my studio 1558. I hoped to get Samsung or LG (let's go motherland!), but I got AUO. I have an AUO on my inspiron e1505 and it's been very nice. This one is great as well!

AUO is supposed to have a better LED screen then LG or Samsung as someone told me due to better specs.
