    Hi everyone-
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm at a loss. I just got my new XPS M170 tonight. I'm in the middle of loading all my software etc and getting the system how I want it for now, but every time I restart, Sonic Update Manager or Sonic Activation Module try and install and then I get prompted for a disk. I tried a couple of disks that Dell sent that seemed logical, but neither of them have what the installer is looking for. Anyone know what this is? It's kind of annoying and it seems to take several tries to cancel out of it. Thanks!

    Hi sprts,
You should be able to uninstall it in add/remove programs or in Sonic itself. Personally I can't stand sonic, so i uninstalled the whole thing and got Nero.

If you want to keep sonic, here is how you fix it:

Thanks... that did it. For now I did the Hotfix... I'll decide later if I want to get rid of it...

SG...I'm just curious, whatis is about Sonic you don't like? I have nero on my desktop and it works fine but a friend raves about Sonic....but since you have never steered me wrong yet, and my friend owes me 20 bucks, I might dump Sonic and get a new friend.

BTW, I installed Nero on my M140 but I only installed Nero Express and not all the other stuff....is that I all I need to to burn DVDs? I have the full program on my desktop but want to make sure I am not missing anything on my laptop...

LOL, its pretty much like the screen issue with dell - it is all about personal preferences.

For me, I've never been a sonic fan. I don't like the interface of it - find it difficult to get around in. Plus Nero has more options. I like being able to tell nero that I have a CD or DVD in, then it gives me the options to try. Its very user friendly. It also has the full ability to do backup of HDD, rip CDs to MP3's, etc. Its just one of my favorite burning software to use. I use to be big on using WinAmp, but now I use Nero to burn and rip everything I need.

I'm 99% sure that Nero Express will burn DVDs (as long as we aren't talking about protected DVDs- Nero won't do that at all).
