What do you guys think about the Sony FE compared to the Dell E1505?
Which one is better in terms of build quality, price, components, power etc.

I have a FE now, but I might change because I am extremely unhappy that the cover of my Sony FE has just worn out. It was originally white, but some parts have turned blackish (worn out)

The palm rest and LCD bezel feel sturdier on the 6400 than the FE590 IMHO, but the FE590 seems to have a sturdier lid. A companion of mine owned a 630M for roughly 6 months and the lid is in excellent shape showing no colour wear.

The better price on the 6400 was why I chose the 6400 over the FE690. I purchased my 6400 for merely $1643 CAD (approx $1450 US), which was a steal for the specs compared to the FE. I customized my system with maxed out components and paid a cheaper price than what I would have paid on a lesser FE.

Perhaps if you were to upload a few pictures of the colour wear, we can give you suggestions as to resolving the cover wearing out. We have shops here in Toronto that can repaint any laptop at any colour.

Imageshack and photobucket are great options for uploading your pictures. You can post your link here so we can see. I am new to the notebookreview forum so I do not know the rules for how big a file can be uploaded here.

The lid actually appears as if it had a few specs of dirt on it, since the black coloured spots are minimal. Are you certain the black spots is a wear from the white colour and not dust? (try rubbing the black spots off, and if you can't, it's a wear)

The easiest way to restore the white colour of the lid is to find the corresponding paint that matches your colour and paint the lid. Users in the Cosmetic Modification forum will have a better idea of what to use.

Dell's paint job might get "change color" if your palm is sweaty. I used mine for like 3 months and the palm rest started to turn pink/

    About Dell VS Sony
    - QUality: Sony is better in screen quality,
    - Performance: Mostly the same
    - Components: Dell can do upgrade easily

Cons: about sony: You can't do a clean reinstallation with all the FN working. If you do a clean reinstallation, the FN function button won't let you change the brightness as far as other functions of the key anymore.

With Dell , you don't need any extra software to control those FN button. It's linked to the BIOS. I like Dell's quick media button alot too.

Yes, it does look like specs of dirt. But unfortunately, it isn't. I already tried water and and tissue, but it is wear. So what should I do? I am still in the warranty period.
