Whenever I play music, my sound sometimes makes this occasional "pausing" sound. I chatted with a Dell Hardware support person online, doing everything they came up with, and nothing seemed to work. Their final solution is to send someone out to my house to replace the sound card. This means that they're going to need to open my computer. :( I'm afraid that they may scratch or ruin something, so I'm not sure what I should.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you want a simpler way, just buy either a small thumbdrive sized USB sound card (like the Turtle Beach Audio Micro) or buy a PCMCIA card like the Audigy ZS.

Obviously both those are gonna cost you money, but many people including myself consider them superior to the integrated sounds laptops come with. And you don't have to worry about the guy opening up your laptop.

I see this as a perfect excuse for one of those cards.

The 1420/1520/1720 do not have a PCMCIA slot, but an ExpressCard slot.
