I have a Inspiron 1720 Vista Home Premium. I recently been having problems with my 'Sound Recorder'. When I click on Sound Recorder it tells me 'An audio recording device cannot be found' despite using this program many times. I'm not swure this has anyhting to do with a file I downloaded from Dell Support ( audio driver). Can anyone help? thanks

Select 'Sound' in the Control Panel, and make sure that you have a microphone enabled under 'Recording'. If nothing is shown, right-click and make sure 'Show Disabled Devices' and 'Show Disconnected Devices' are checked. Hope this helps. =^)

Do you have integrated microphones on the top of your screen? Or do you have to plug in an external microphone? If you have an integrated mic on your laptop, you should be able to right-click on that device and choose 'Enable,' or select 'Properties' and select 'Use this device (enable)' under 'Device Usage'.

I just solved the problem. Apparently i have the wrong sound driver because when I was prompt with the 'Dell Support' sound driver update i d/l. So I had to get the CD and re-install the original sound driver. The sound recored and mic is back but the problem now is the sound is too low.
