Sound card alternative for 9300?

Hi,

I'm looking for a PCMCIA sound card for my 9300. I know about the Creative Labs Audigy ZS but this one is not compatible with the Ricoh chipset and I have done my research and I have not found much evidence that the compatibility has been resolved. I know some people on the Asus forum have gotten it working on a Ricoh chipset but it's more like a hit or miss kind of thing. Then there's the Echo Indigo but it costs about 2x the audigy. So I was wondering if there's another choice or am I stuck with these two options only?

 

That's weird. I have the Audigy ZS and it works fine on my laptop. I use it everyday in fact.

Another option would be turtle beach micro advantage. Its not a PCMCIA card, but is a good alternative to internal sound cards.

I know it's weird, apparently it's not supposed to work on the Ricoh controller (I know I said chipset before, I didn't remember what it was called) but some people were lucky and are able to use it but some have not. Maybe your controller is not a Ricoh or maybe you were one of those lucky ones. Anyway, I don't want to try because it's a hassle to get it down here and if it doesn't work, I can't send it back hence I need something more plausible to work. I have seen the turtle beach but I don't want things hanging out of my laptop. Is there any other choice?

 

I honestly don't know. I do have the ricoh driver for my PCMCIA slot. I haven't seen that many complaints that the sound blaster doesn't work with the 9300, but we don't have very many users that use that card either.

Sound Blaster is the only card that I can think of. I want to say there is another one, but I can't seem to find it by googling. I'll check around some more and see what I can find.

 

Btw, SG, what controller do you have on your laptop?

That's the same one I have. It's on the "black list" according to creativelabs website. I've read reports that it may work or not. Someone here with a XPS couldn't make it work (same controller) while someone on the Asus forum could (same controller) and apparently it got down to the point that the "newer" (blister pack) cards work but the "older" (boxed) type do not. Which one did you get?

Edit: Which sellers have the blister packed version? How can one tell?
