Hi, I am using inspiron 1520, I have suffered from the headphone whine and the shhh sound (I dont know how to describe it) all these time until I installed Windows 7. The driver CD that Dell provided me does not allow me to install the drivers for win7 so I installed everything except the sound driver which I totally forgotten to since win 7 default drivers work.

Magically the whine/shh problem is totally gone when my sound card is using the default Microsoft drivers 6.1.7600.16385. Today, I downloaded the latest sound driver from Dell website for 1520 - 6.10.0.5614, A03, the problem comes back. I completely removed the Sigmatel driver from Dell (uninstall, delete the driver from C:/Drivers and peace is back (windows automatically reinstall the original Microsoft driver).

So I am wondering, does "upgrading" the Microsoft driver to Sigmatel driver improve sound quality or have any sort of improvement of any kind? Sorry for the long story as I am curious as I am a gamer and I use sound a lot as a part of my play.

    Thanks in advance.
