    Hi all,
i am using Inspiron 1520 and have a 32 bit windows 7 installed. My headphones have suddenly stopped working. I had used them a day ago but now they just dnt wrk. The headphones are fine as i have i tested them on other machines as well. My laptop speakers are working. But once, i insert the headphone jack, the sound from the speakers stop and there is no sound in the headphones as well. I have also tried re-installing my OS but still no use.
    Please advise.

The sound ports can get damaged. Is the port noticeably pushed in or out of the case?

It's happens from time to time, see if this works. Once it downloads just pop it open and unzip the installer and everything should work. This is the driver-related to the Inspiron 1520 Audio, it is the 32-Bit Version for Windows 7.

However, I would recommend doing the following:
    1. Uninstall the old audio driver (SigmaTel Audio) from the Programs & Features in Control Panel
    2. Once the uninstall completes, restart the laptop
    3. Install the driver provided in the link above.
    4. Restart the laptop and try playing with the audio to see now

I do not believe this is an operating-system related issue, rather one of two things probably happened, the audio driver did not install correctly with Windows Update or that the audio port has sustained damage. If it's the later, it's a more involved fix, but feasible. You can just order the audio board from eBay ($5-$7 USD) and open your laptop and take out the broken one and put in the new one.
