So my laptop remains on my desk stationary, and yesterday the sound decided to go out when I turned my computer on. I've done all the simple things to try and resolve the issue, like checking if my sound is muted, checking if my sound card is working properly through the device manager, reinstalling my sound driver. Nothing has worked thus far. The weird thing is, both my headphones and speakers don't work, all the forums I've been reading up on, the people at least say their headphones work, in my case, both stopped working, any ideas on what I should do?

Try a different OS? Maybe a live linux? see if it does the same and if it does... well .... that's not good.

I had a similar issue on my 1737. This morning when I logged in I noticed that the logon sound did not play, which was strange, but not something that worried me. I opened up the Zune software and iTunes, but no audio would come from the speakers or headphone ports even though the system was not muted and the volume was up. I left it alone, and this afternoon I booted up with the same issue. Everything is working now, though. I simply plugged in the audio cable that I use to connect the laptop to our computer speakers using one of the headphone ports. At first the music had a lot of static, but it leveled out in a few seconds, and did the same when I unplugged the headphones as the audio started playing from the internal speakers. I really have no idea what happened, but making the system stream audio to our speakers seemed to fix it for me .
