In this post i gave each problem a number, to make it look clear.

    1. I have a Dell studio 1745. I think it was already from the beginning when i started to have a sound problem with my laptop. I got this laptop since March 1 or near that time. It was not that the sound always didn't work. As time passed by, it seemed to become a more regular problem than in the beginning. Then the sound of the laptop just didn't start or while the sound worked, sometimes it stopped (maybe after the end of a song that i listened to or when i tried to change the volume of the laptop). I would like to know if more people had the same problem and what they did for a solution.

    2. Not so long ago (maybe 3 weeks ago) it also happened that my laptop automatically restarted (or ended) short after i logged in and when things were just starting. A small blue window with text appeared, but quickly disappeared before the laptop went off (or restarted). There was hardly time to read what was in it. When the laptop restarted or when i started it again, i got automatically a screen with some choices to choose in what way i wanted to start. This screen came because of the problem, so i choosed safety mode. In the safety mode i saw "happening name of the problem: Bluescreen"(translated to English). I didn't know any further what to do, but later it went fine. I got this type of problem 2, 3 or 4 times. Now i don't notice it anymore, but it may happen again. I don't know if this has anything to do with the sound problem. People are free to let me know their views.

By the way, if i have noticed correctly, then after i got the "bluescreen" problems, i had no sound problems (like i mentioned by "1") for a little while, till today.

    3. I also noticed another problem with the sound in Windows media player. This may not have been there from the beginning. With some songs or just any song at times, near the end of the song i hear a hitch (hope i used the right word) of nearly a second. Does anyone have had the same? If someone knows a solution for this, you're free to tell me.

    4. One more thing about the sound is that some songs don't work correctly, because they get a somewhat disturbing sound while played. This problem was already there from the beginning, but it may have something to do with the fact that this is a laptop. I know this can be fixed by buying a few little boxes, but i would just like to know if this is normal. The next song (a short one) may be a good example to test out if anyone with a similar laptop has the same:

Soundtrack Pride and prejudice - Liz on top of the world

It can be find on youtube. Probably because of the other sound problem at this moment, the youtube-link doesn't work correctly for me (the whole window), so i cannot copy the link now and have to restart internet explorer (or maybe i go restarting my laptop).

    ok, couple of things.

First, right click on my computer, choose properties, then in the window that openes choose advanced system settings (on the left)

In the new window that will open, under "startup and recovery" press settings.
There will be a checkbox saying "Automatically restart", you'll want to remove the V from this checkbox.

This will prevent windows from restarting when a blue screen happens.

That way, when it does, you can post the code and details here.

Another thing i'd ask you to do is go to event viewer ( start, run, eventvwr). there, expand Windows Logs and go to System.

Then, on the right, choose filter current log, and choose all critical and errors.
Now press save selected events and post the file here so we can analyze it together.

    Cheers.

    P.S
That might be a different issue called DPC latency.
lets see the event log first.

Olga, hi. Please zip C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP and post it here as well. This is the memory dump from your bluescreen.

what do you have connected to your usb ports ?
seems like the crash dump that you posted here was caused by a usb driver.

My mouse is connected there. Further, i did connect an extern hard disk (new, from this year) to 2 usb ports a while ago (it needed 2 ports). I only have used that disk maybe 2 times till now. It was a bit difficult to put the usb-"sticks" of the disk in the ports, as the cable was slightly too short. I think of buying something for it to make it work better. But to come back with the crash, i don't think it crashed while the disk was connected at that time. I disconnected the disk before i put off my laptop and i only connected it after i logged in. Could the crash be related to the sound?

i doubt it, since the sound card does not use the USB interface. So the crash had to have come from another source.

BTW, are you under warranty ?

I just saw your reply today :eek2:
I didn't get an email notification and the last time i visited, i didn't see your reply.

Anyway, yes i'm still under warranty, though i'm leaving to India next friday (if i get the visa), but Dell is also in India. Maybe i should give it a try.

You most definitely should. They might even give support in India for you. Good luck!
