I have an xps 1210 and have noticed something very annoying: every few seconds the notebook emits a high pitched noise that last for a few seconds. This might not seem like a big deal but when I am totally quiet doing work it gets so annoying that I have to turn it off.
Any way to get rid of this sound?
Thanks

Is the sound coming from your regular speakers or the system speaker?

Your sound card is no good. Call Dell and get it replaced. I had the same problem with my first XPS -
I dont think it has anything to do with the speakers. I thought it was the dvd drive making the noise.

Is it the wifi beep? Intel software has it set at default to beep, but I don't remember all of the details. I know we've had several users complain of this beeping noise before but not sure if it is the same as what you are describing.

Its hard to describe. Its not a beep rather its a high pitched noise (if that isnt confusing). Its sounds kinda like the noise the dvd drive makes when its reading a cd. I thought I could possibly disable the drive and see if thats the source of the sound.

what cd/dvd drive do you have?

the sony dvdrw

I think I know what you're talking about - is it an intermittent, high pitched buzzing noise?

YESSSSS!!!!!
Thats it!!!
It happens every few seconds. It is extremely annoying when I am doing work. I was doing chemistry a while ago and had to shut it off because its so annoying when doing work. -
I have an update for this issue. I have fixed the problem. I wanted to increase my performance so I disabled alot of the backgound processes and configured my power settings to max performance. After a little while, I realized that theres no more sounds!! Its really weird but at least its fixed.

I just bought 2 E1505 and am having htis problem on both of them, please tell me exactly what you did to solve this problem...

I just went to msconfig (type in RUN). I went through each list on each tab and disabled everything I didnt use. I then went to the power options on the control panel and configured it to max. performance.
