    Karma, It'll Get You!

All 3 of my main computers should and were receiving the same emails on all 3! Example ...email sent to [email protected] should show up (the're configured...this was intentional ) on all 3 computers in the same none @none.com email box. Each computer is only taking care of itself. I don't know how to explain but I need desperately to save all these emails before erasing all my info.....to send back to Dell!

Your emails, address book, etc. are stored in .dbx files which are located in your profile in Documents and Settings on the C: drive. If you search the C: drive you should find them. Burn them onto a CD. Later you can import them back into Outlook Express.

If you go into the options under tools, on the maintenece tab there is a button called Store Folder. It will show you the path where the files are stored. You have to go into folder options and tell it to show hidden system files otherwise you wont be able to see them. Copy the files onto a cd or other media and you'll have a backup which you can re-import later.

when in outlook express. tools > options > maintenance (tab) > store folder (button)

this tells you where outlook express is storing your files. Are you finding that?

did the place zazonz point you to work? Mine points me again to that same location I told you about earlier (that's the deafult place).

[EDIT]: the long serial number is just a random number that OE creates.
[Edit]: the thing zazonz was talking about is in OE-> tools-> options-> maintanance -> store folder. it should point you to a directory with files with names like inbox.dxb, trash.dxb .... those are the one you need saved.

on neither of them since the day I told you about!

if you are unable to find that location, then probably you have your hidden files or system files hidden.
you will need to unhide them by going to mycomputer > tools > folder options > view > choose to unhide hidden files, and protected system files (the one with recommended next to it).

Sorry, we had a storm and I lost power.
Just so I can get caught up, you are trying to transfer your emails on the 9300 to another PC, then delete the ones on the 9300?

Can someone remember or realize I'm in IE right no and the email is in Outlook express and Qwester I don't know what you are talking about (long number) not completely sure, maybe!? I believe the number in OE. Correct? I'm in IE again.

Zazonz can you push me further, please! I'm telling you all I don't see a folder with my email. Doing a search, all kinds of email options came up ..none going to OE email folder.

Do this: right click on "inbox" in OE > properties. it should tell you where inbox is (physically on your drive i mean)

does this point to the same place? and is that place alse empty!!!!

Open Outlook Express. Hit Tool>Options. On the Maintenance Tab, click Store Folder. That will give you the exact location where your .dbx files are stored.

If you ran the dell restore already, then your email will be gone. The restore would have cleaned it out.

    edit:
to get your files on to the cd, go to my computer, right click on the cd drive and select "write these files to a cd" or you can click on the balloon when it appears on the taskbar.

If you want to use sonic, when the registration window pops up, just click cancel. It will give you a 7 day trial.

Qwester,I used to have the full version of Nero free from a tech I used 5 years ago. I loved it. I definitely will be buying it if I can find it cheap somewhere. If you know of anywhere let me know. I keep seeing it new for $70/$79.

ugh, I don't know how to do this the way the guys told you to do it

You have to import the messages into OE....follow these steps, if you have problems don't close OE. but let me know what step you are on.

    Open OE
    goto file
    goto import
    goto messages
    select outlook express 6,press next
select main identity (this step might be skipped)
then click browse and goto your cd drive

edit: LOL, Qwester's way is alot easier. I just wasn't sure if that would work or not.

my computer-->right click on d drive (cd drive) and select what you want it to do. If you still need to burn those files, then choose write files to cd.

Nothing is showing up on the cd in the 9300 or the other PC?

I put it in and it made noise like it was going to show up...nothing! What can I click on like if a DVD or any software doesn't start right away?

    Karma, It'll Get You!

It was sonic I used and I clicked off all the registration,etc..Then and now a wizard keeps popping up. First it said my disc was no good..too old! Impossible! then I just inserted it to try agan and sounds like it was going to show up. No! Wizard came up again saying do you want to write now. I said yes ,watched it ,it said ok and I still don't see anything coming up.

Is there something I can click on to get to start like when a DVD or a Norton cd doesn't start immediately? That's what I just did when the wizad came back up and said do you want to write now,I watched ,it looked ok but nothing is showing up on it!

    NOPE !!!

Just copy them into the place of the same files on the other computer. OE will automatically read them.

Sorry, I am doing some school work at the same time. so I have a look here every once in a while! [ :)]

edit: actually give southerngirls' method a shot. it might work!

    I'm a little confused now.

Its normal to pop in a cd and have nothing happen. Most CD's have an autorun file or an .exe file that will automatically start. This cd only has data, so its not going to start.

Is OE working on your pc(the one that had troubles with eraser) right now with no problems?

What Qwester is talking about is copying the file from your cd and pasting it in the file on your computer, but you'll have to find the file like C :Documents and Settingsyour useLocal SettingsApplication DataIdentitiessome keyMicrosoftOutlook Express . OR you might be able to import the file.

are the files you backed up on the cd .dbx files?

Do the same thing that you did on the notebook that you are sending back to find where the files are on this PC that you want to open them on. then go and place them in that place. If you have things there with the same name (such as inbox.dbx) just rename the new one to something else and it should appear as a new folder in OE.

In all of this I am asuming the files backed up on the cd are .dbx! are they?

what i mean is locate where the emails are on this pc where you are trying to open the imported emails. (right click inbox > properties) same as u did before.
then go to that directory (not in OE, just in explorer, thru my computer) just like you did before.
now copy the files from the cd to the exact same place where OE is storing its emails on this pc. rename the files to avoid deleting old ones and replacing!
now close OE and reopen it. it should read the new files and load the emails from them.

I have a sense that one of us is not understanding something that the other is trying to say!
