    Hi all.
Just joined the forums and im thinking of buying the Dell Inspiron 1720.

Im just concerned about the real-life size of it as I wouldnt want it to be too big!
So, could someone who owns an Inspiron 1720 please post some pictures of it, along side some DVD cases, like in the pictures I've attached that I found of a Vostro 1700 from this thread.
Ideally, could you post some pictures with DVD cases along the width, the depth and also stacked against the thickness of the unit.

    Thanks in advance! :)

why not just measure a dvd case and compare it with the 1720 dimension specs?

The chassis of the vostro 1700 is identical to that of the 1720. Therefore, it's the same size.

i would, but i cant seem to find official dimensions for the Inspiron 1720 and many reviews I've read seem to give different dimensions.

ok, so just to confirm before i purchase, the Vostro 1700 and Inspiron1720 both have identical chassis?

    thanks.

if you're going to buy a 17" notebook and are worried about size even the slightest, you need to seriously rethink your purchase

I just saw it in a Dell holiday store (temporary in NYC) and it is HUGE. Obscenely huge, maybe a little bigger than my old 12lb Clevo 888. Hell, it's so boxy that it looks like an updated Clevo 888 with some extra lights.

Just out of curiosity - what would you consider too big?

well tbh, the main reason im interested in this machine is that i can get it with the following spec for £570 (approximately $1125):

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]

    nVidia® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory

    320GB (5400RPM) SATA Dual Hard Drives (2X160GB)

i cant seem to find anything near as high spec as this for this price, in any size! the 15 inch Inspiron 1520 cant be configured to have a dedicated graphics card, and only has a 160gb hard drive (though that only costs £479/$945)

any suggestions for any laptops with similar spec for similar price?

hmm this is what im worried about! i dont want it to be too huge!
its tough to decide without seeing it, as some other reviews ive read have even said it isnt as big as they thought it would be.

as for my limit with regards to the size, i guess the sort of dimensions ive seen online for this laptop (15.5" x 11.5" x 1.7", weight 7.7 lbs) are pretty much the borderline...any bigger than this is definitely too big, and this is right on the edge of that boundary...
