    Hi

I am from South Africa!! I have been researching the XPS 1330 for some time now and have finally decided to purchse one. Just to confirm my decision, just want to make sure that the specs I have chosen are ok. The specs are at max limit of budget it will just be used mainly for internet surfing (no gaming, vid editing etc).

    1.83Ghz
    2Gb Ram
    Home Premium
    Wireless a/b/g
    Bluetooth
    Led Screen

Do you think that these specs will be ok?
    I am upgrading from a 2.5 yr old Latitude 110 L Pentium M.

How long should a laptop be good to still use?

    Thanks all!

These specs will completely suffice your needs. No need for anything better than this, since you are no gamer.
About laptop use-life, it depends. For stuff you will be doing it can last until it broke out (if it ever happen). If you plan some gaming in the future, integrated graphics might be a problem with intensive games.

Yes, much more than enough. A 1,2GHz C2D is enough for surfing (that's what I use).

thanks yea ive been debating it in my mind for days/weeks now.
it is a little costly but think it will be worth it. current laptop is 2.5 yrs old. battery is poked and its a 15" and bulky. time to size down!!

i can get the onboard gfx card but i heard that it makes the pc hot and chows battery. suppose for my needs, i wont ever game (maybe the sims if im reallly bored or an old flight simulator) i shouldnt need it.

one other thing.. integrated sound blaster AUDIOLOGY what is that? is it necessary to include in my order?

    cheers

Yeah I was going to suggest to go for the integrated video option since the Nvidia card will consume more battery and increase heat. Plus, you will save a few more bucks.

Yes, dedicated graphic card will consume battery life more and increase laptop heating, so for you gaming needs you mentioned, the integrated one will be ok.

If you're only doing internet browsing, would you not actually be better off with something like an Eee PC?

    Ok. The wait is over.
Have just placed the order with a Dell Reseller, so I hope they order it fast and I get it fast.

Apparently the Ireland factory from where SA get their machines work on the weekend?! Can you confirm that?

Hope I get it super fast, now i can soon join the xps1330 Owners board and the "waiting for delivery" thread!! haha
