I got the 750 @ 1.86GHz. Would the $200 upgrade to 2.0GHz have been worth it (should I cancel my order)?

Anyone able to say how it will compare to my old AMD64 3400 @ 2.2GHz?

The AMD64 was an HP ZV5000Z which I LOVED, but was stolen. This is its replacement. In speccing it out, I tried to stay right at what I paid for the HP.

    I6000,PM 750(1.86 GHZ),DISC
    LCD,15.4,WUXGA
    512MB,DDR2,400MHZ,2 DIMM
    128MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300
    60GB HARD DRIVE,7.2K
    WINDOWS XP PRO,SP2
DELL 2-BUTTON SCROLL OPTICAL USB MOUSE
    INTEGRATED NIC AND MODEM
    24X COMBO - DVD/CD-RW
    INTEL PRO/WRLS 2200,802.11B/G
    80 WHR,9-CELL,LION,PRIM BATT
    INT 350 BLUETOOTH WRLESS
Free 720 AIO Inkjet (Value $49.00)

    Total $2,142.00
    Discount - $400.00
    Sub-Total $1,742.00
    Shipping $0.00
    Estimated Tax $108.87
    Final $1,850.87

    The HP was:

    HP ZV5000Z
    AMD64 3400 2.2GHz
    512MB PC3200 DDR (1 Stick)
    15.4" WUXGA LCD
    60GB 4200RPM
    24xCDRW/8xDVD-ROM
    Integrated 802.11 b/g
    Integrated bluetooth
    nVidia go440 64MB
    Win XP Pro SP2
    12-cell battery
    no mouse
    no printer

    $1,801 shipped

As you can see, I stayed almost exactly the same once you consider adding the Dell mouse was $30 or $40 and the premiums for the upgraded video (64 to 128MB) and HDD speed (4200 to 7200rpm).

The only real difference is the processor, video, and disk speed. Wondering how the Dell will compare. I'll let you know when I get it, from firsthand, but that'll be a week and a half.

i'd probably cancel the mouse off the order... if you really need one, i think you can get a better spec'd mouse for the same price or get the same mouse for a lot less somewhere else

Your new one should game better, however your other PC had a better CPU. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the HP laptop have a GeForce4 GPU? The X300 is MUCH better (in comparison). As for the CPU, you should not really notice the drop in speed.

If your a gamer, save that 200 dollars and when the system comes by another 512 stick of ram. You can find some great deals on ebay, pricewatch.com, even sometimes retailers. Don't get it through Dell, unless you just don't want to deal with it. The difference from 1.86 to 2.00 would be hardly noticeable.

*Sony MDR-G74SL Headphones for music and gaming, best 40 dollar pair i have ever bought!*

Tip: Use one of the 30/35% off coupons for greater savings. It'll cancel out the $400, but still a better deal.

Ended up canceling my previous order, b/c another post pointed me to the 30% off from the Home side vs the $400 from Business. Ended up getting exactly the same config, but w/ the 2.0GHz for

    Total $2,312.00
    30% Off - $693.60
    SubTotal $1,618.40
    Shipping (2nd Day)$ 59.00
    Shipping Discount -$59.00
    Tax $ 117.31
    Shipped Price $1,735.70

instead of the Business side w/$400:

    Total $2,142.00
    Discount - $400.00
    Sub-Total $1,742.00
    Shipping $0.00
    Estimated Tax $108.87
    Final $1,850.87

A difference of $115.17 less for a faster processor!

I'm only a casual gamer, so the graphics should be good (for me) - I'm more concerned w/the loss of the processor speed (java compilation on Eclipse development) and 64-bits (cool factor - I know XP is only 32-bit, but I dual-booted it to SuSE 64-bit) from the ole' ZV5000Z.

Having the 2GHz Pentium M should console me on the speed front -- I've read up a bit and am fairly convinced it should feel at least as fast as the AMD 3400 did.

The 32-bit vs. 64-bit won't make a difference so long as I'm booted into XP, and I'm not gonna pay for the 64-bit XP even when/if it comes out.

This really should be a better machine for me overall -- assuming (which may be a big assumption) I'm happy with the screen. I'm looking forward to 5+ hours of batter time, as I'm also a writer, and the HDD is faster (7200 vs 4200).

I know I could probably find a (better) mouse cheaper somewhere else, but I just don't wanna mess with it right now - I'm already saving a good chunk even still.

Thanks guys (and gals if you're out there!)
