Everyday Dell keeps it's lips sealed they lose a little bit more of their expected Dell customers who have been waiting for a long time to have this upgrade be opened to the world. The only thing they are doing by keeping it a secret is hurting themselves because there are seriously so many people waiting for Dell take that next step, and if Dell is not planning anything for this, then I will move on to another computer brand, and watch Dell crash and burn...

Dell should at least give an indication now of what they will release so they don't lose customers in the meantime.

Actually none of those laptops are that appealing with the exception of the Sony Z's. The current xps laptops are nicer in the style stakes.

Montevina is only half released, all those "montevina based" laptop release can't be tagged as centrino (at least for now). So, currently, many lappies released today are only available at pre-order. Mid-August is the true release date of centrino 2 and in fact, I think that even HP is keeping a lot of models in the dark. So, it's possible that dell can't release nothing, because their models relies on unreleased montevina technologies.

On the other hand, maybe dell wants to play it à la Apple? Who knows.

The 1530 has some good deals right now and I was thinking of getting one now because of that, but I really want to know what gpu dell will be using in th refresh and how much better it will perform compared to the 8600gt, plus I don't know if I want to risk buying a laptop with a 8600 in it after the whole nvidia defective gpu ordeal. I wish they would make an announcement already, the new toshibas are really starting to look nice now, if only dell would make an announcement that the xps 1530 will be fitted with a 9700 GTS like the toshibas, that might make it easier for me to wait.

"I really want to know what gpu dell will be using in th refresh and how much better it will perform compared to the 8600gt"
Even with a 9600m gt, performance increase will be soso (and 9500m gs is almost a 8600m gt rebranded).

"that the xps 1530 will be fitted with a 9700 GTS like the toshibas, that might make it easier for me to wait."
    Forget about it.
1: dell doesn't want xps to compete will alienware
2: a 9700 GTS drain too much power and is too hot for normal laptops.

Maybe they'll announce it tomorrow (saving the best for last). Like sefk said, mid-August is the shipping date for the Sony models and probably the others as well. Of course an announcement would be a good idea and they should do it this week.

Personally, I'm hoping for a XPS M1640 model (16.4"/16:9) which according to Sony with their FW model combines the viewing experience of a 17" with the notebook footprint of a 15.4" (something like that) with a 512MB 9600M GT or 9700M GT video card, as well as blu-ray. I also need a 13" notebook, but I may get a Sony Z instead of a M1340/50.

Anyway like the tread title says: Spill the Beans Dell !!!

I'm hoping that the lack of announcements means that Dell is biding its time, waiting for the Centrino 2 madness to calm down a bit. If they had launched their new line today, it would've been buried underneath the avalanche of laptop announcements from everyone and their grandma. Maybe, just maybe, we'll get something in a day or two. In any case, it better be worth the wait! :p

Actually some of you are wrong, multiple manufacturers are already shipping their models and such. Although it says shipping mid august, a pre configured FW says it can be shipped immediately, and is in stock. Toshiba has them in stock also. HP's custom built ones have a build date of 7/28. Circuitcity.com is already carrying the dv5-1000us or something like that, and they are available and online and probably in stores.

So Centrino 2 is out, I believe. However I'm like all of you, I want to see the new Dell lineup and hopefully a studio with 9500M GS or something sufficient for gaming.

sounds like a viable marketing technique; I wouldn't be surprised if that what Dell is doing. In all honesty, look at the hype that's being created for a new Dell lineup! It's almost like they are being 'fashionably late'....
