Hey guys... I was wondering about... well, you know that spring break is coming, and I'll probably going to beach, I'll be there maybe for a week.

I got my new e1705 coming in the next days from Dell, and I was really thinking in have the e1705 with me... you know, you at beach, getting night, nothing too interesting to do and... maybe a e1705 (w/ 7900 ;)) can provide a NICE game plays... (FarCry, HL2, F.E.A.R, Doom III,...), even games not too recent, but I like them and I haven't get time to play in normal days. Also, I can continue doing my projects even being at beach...

Question. Should I have any problems? I've heard about problems with computers or eletronic devices (cameras, etc...) being at littoral cities... And I really don't want to have problems with my brand new notebook, rsrs..

    ?!?!

Man, if you go to spring break somewhere nice like florida or mexico, and ur gonna sit at the beach playing games or do projects on ur laptop there's something wrong. Girls in bikini > laptops, but that's just me...

But sorry for the rant, you should be fine in bringing it there, just make sure u keep it on the towel and don't get it near sand or allow sand to get into any of the vents or the keyboard.

the screen might wash out if you are using it outside.

I would not use a computer at the beach, but that's just me.

    adinu,

I understood you, but If you read again what I post... was like, " ...you at beach, getting night, nothing too interesting to do and... maybe a e1705..".

I didn't write I'll go beach, take my notebook in the 40ºC, right in the sand and play games looking to the ocean.

I meant, use the notebook at night in the AP; equals, no sun, no girls. Sorry but... :(

Umm...Just leave it at home and have a good time without it. Theft, potential accidental damage, lugging a 17" laptop around you'd be crazy unless your going with your folks.

The beach brings these things to mind:
    -Sand
    -Heat
    -Salt Water
    -Wind
    -Sweat
    -High risk of theft

I would never consider taking a laptop down to the beach. The beach is a slaughter house for electronic devices. Every electonic device bar my ipod I have ever taken to the beach didn't survive more than one of two visits. This includes cameras, cellphones, headphones, mp3 players, boomboxes, even notoriously tough gameboys, and some other random things I've forgotten I'm sure. The sand, salt water, heat, and the wind (which blows the sand and contains saltwater making it highly corrosive) is just to much for them. Seems to me a notebook would fair ever worse in those conditions. Then there is the high risk of theft there.

Good point, atleast for using it in the lap (They do sell tables and umbrella/table combos now though). I don't think it is hot enough yet, but I imagine the cooling system would really struggle out there on a hot day. The sand bakes and it is like walking on an oven. You can see the head rising. Imagine your notebook trying to cool itself with heat rising into its exhaust vents like that as it is trying to get rid of partially cooled air. Not good I would think. Even if you had an umbrella or a tarp it would get pretty hot in there.

Apparently I miss understood you? o_O; Well if its in the apartment at night on vacation, then there is no problem with taking your laptop with you. Thats what a notebook computer is for after all. Even the big 17inchers are good occational travel buddies. =)

If your staying at someplace on the beach still be careful if you take it outside, say to sit on a balcony or porch. I know it is temping and it is okay to do for short periods. But avoid prolonged exposure to the corrosive salt air which can still damage your machine even from a distance.

Did you get CompleteCare??? If so, then at least you would be protected against anything that could happen to your laptop while down at the beach (water, sand, overheating etc...) but not theft.

Yes, I think so... and unfortunately, not only you, eheh.

That's I was talking about in the first post. If I take the notebook with me to use only inside the apartment It could damage the system looking that its a litoral city with salt air.

Unfortunately I didn't have funds to do.

I'd leave it at home for a couple of reasons:

    1) Ocean + salt = bad for computers

    2) Sure it will be in a building. But, I imagine other people will be there and you can't watch your computer all the time. In other words, it could be stolen.

I'd leave it at home. That way you don't have to worry about it all the time and you can enjoy yourself.

Are you going somewhere that won't have air conditioning? If you have airconditioning the salt air won't pose a problem and the notebook should do just fine indoors. I take my notebook with me to Ormond Beach several times a year and don't have any problems if I keep it inside and only use it for brief periods out on the balcony. I learned the hardway with my previous notebook though thankfully suffered no serious damage when I was using it outside on the balcony and other outdoor areas for extended periods of time.

Edit: If you are staying with people you don't really know or trust then leave it at home. I would worry about theft. It is easy enough to hide it from cleaning stuff.

I have lived in florida for a few years now and I dont want to sound weird but the beach to me is really overrated. Its really cool like the first year, since being from upstate ny previously there is no beach and plus the winters. After the first year I really had no desire to go to the beach on a regular basis. I now go a few times each semester. Obviously the girls are nice to look at but I guess since I live in florida all year it has lost its appeal to me. Not to mention the heat most of the year down here is unbearable to me, unlike most other people.

This will probably sound even more weird but I would much rather do my shark research off the coast with no girls instead of hanging out on the beach with the girls.

Salt air isnt good for a notebook, but its far from a death sentance, otherwise nobody on the coast would own one.....I would keep it off the beach though, the cooling scheme uses suction to work, and sand in the innards is a bad thing.

Ok fine, you're gonna go to the beach for the girls...

But if you spend the night at home playing games etc, then you obviously don't know what spring break is all about.

I don't mean to be harsh, but I think it's a waste to go on vacation far away and spend a lot of time there on the computer. I mean, you have 358 remaining days in the year to game/do projects, but how often are you in Mexico on vacation at a beach resort with so much potential for social fun.

But that's just a senior in college's idea of what "spring break" is. I'm sure other people have different ideas...

Oh man I miss those spring breaks back from college... Right now am a grad student and I get no holidays during the year at all (except for like a week or two which is pretty crappy). I miss spending my entire summer off from school.... :(

    agreed with you here

    2) Sure it will be in a building. But, I imagine other people will be there and you can't watch your computer all the time. In other words, it could be stolen.

just leave it at home, you could be the coolest person there cuz you have a laptop but i would not take the risk of getting it stolen, plus you are gonna worry too much for your laptop and you are not gonna even enjoy the spring break, man you wont even have time to play games, im telling you this because one year ago i only used my hotel room to sleep. what i would do is taking a psp with me and only that.

    lol. so many misconceptions.

its not that complicated of a post.

    - If you have a safe environment where your staying (ie you and or close friends/family only will have access to your apartment/room)
    - and if you have a carrying case or dont mind lugging a 17" around with you
    - annnd you REALLY have nothing better to do at night on your vacation..
then i think it would be perfectly fine to bring it.
